Walking past the Coop fresh bakery section last weekend a 'Neue Einheit!' sign caught my eye. Could it actually be that rarest of treasures, that holy grail of baked confections, a real honest-to-goodness Sesame Bagel? Here in the wilds of Schwyz?

Popped two in the toaster, slathered on the cream cheese, anticipating an almost proustian moment in that first bite of dense, chewy delight...

Only to have my hopes cruelly dashed. Again. Round bread, shape being the only commonality with my longed-for bagel. Worse yet, fluffy round bread. Again.

The triumph of hope over experience. Why do I do it?
Reminds me of the lamentations of my sister (she has come to visit me and do a bit of touring around CH for the past two weeks). We went to Paris one weekend and bought a baguette from a recommended boulangerie, which was crowned best baguette of 2013. We tasted it and now we know why.

Back in Lausanne (French speaking Switzerland) and despite her repeated excursions to supermarkets and boulangeries, she has failed to find the same kind of baguette parisienne, but instead just white bread moulded into a baguette shape (and, more often than not, over baked).

For baguettes, she's pretty much ruined for the foreseeable future.

The washing up liquid I got free from Migros smells horrible and it's a big bottle too.

I have to use it though because it was free and I'm from Yorkshire.

COOP has 3 for 2 on their Bio-Washing up liquid.

I bought it - it is utter rubbish.

Now have 2 bottles in the cellar which will never be used

I'll swap you for a large bottle of disgusting smelling Migros stuff if you like.

The Basel prosecutor here has published pictures of two hooligans to ask for identification but with their faces disguised

They say if they are not recognised they will publish the pictures with correct faces. Why not now

Has anyone else noticed no one puts dividers behind their shopping at the supermarket? Does this only annoy me

Yes, without the clever lighting and camera angles, it would just look like your everyday hovel.

Must be a Swiss germn thing.

In our parts it's normal to put the divider thingy after your stuff when you're done. 99% of people do it.

Same here in Basel and I always put a divider behind my stuff. But if the person in front of me hasn't I just pile all my stuff up behind theirs; they then freak out and quickly put a divider in between.
