Two impertinent Ausländers were having a conversation on the tram behind me forcing me to eavesdrop and not be able to concentrate on my 20 Minuten celebrity update...

Evacuation training today - which means half the office has already gone home and the other half are now twiddling their thumbs waiting for the "surprise" evacuation alarm.

My dishwasher is broken and the repair man can't come until tomorrow morning so I'll have to do the washing up myself!

Don't you have a husband or a son for that kind of menial tasks?

They do the cooking and I do the washing up which is a good system normally as the dishwasher takes the strain.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

It's been 30-35 degrees outside with the humidity switched on, and my office has no air conditioning or fan. The library also has no air conditioning nor fans. Sitting here sweating; when the time is 3pm, I get the full brunt of sun beaming into my room.

You'd think I'd be used to this coming from Brisbane, Australia, though in our offices there, we have ventilation/air conditioning, double glazed windows, shaded windows and insulation.

Very true, so again, why can't I put up with this?

Perhaps when you are working, one would appreciate more comfortable conditions than this. If I were just lazing about or doing something leisurely, one might have such an issue with this weather.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Waiting at Bregenz station to go home to Lausanne tonight.
  • The EC train (operated by SBB CFF FFS) was late; overall delay 24-28 minutes at terminus.
  • The train was operated with a SBB CFF FFS cargo train unit pulling the older style long carriages (typically used on IR services). Surprising since one would think international trains should get amongst the best rolling stock available, but I guess big deal, except...
  • The carriage I got on consistently smelled like the toilet
  • The air conditioning system had failed. This carriage only has some small "vent" windows every 2nd set of seats. It was a stifling ride from Bregenz to Zurich HB.
  • I missed a connecting train to Lausanne at Zurich HB by about 4 minutes. I had to take the next (and last) service to Lausanne which left an hour later. This had no effect on my tickets as I was using a day travelcard.
FWP because:
  • I have no legal rights for the delay or discomfort, and
  • Most would agree that any compensation, if any is even worth entertaining, wouldn't be worth a single dime, and you'd be right, because
  • Operational **** happens. Still not great when it does, but they do happen.
  • I got home and didn't have to argue with SBB CFF FFS to put me up in a hotel, so the only right I have legit right now is the right to remain silent...

I've just come out of a vendor meeting where their parting gifts were a pen and a CDROM brochure

Seriously? you're giving out CDROMs in 2015?

Anyway thank you, we'll call you

My son chose our first week of holidays to catch chicken pox, making everyone miserable and sleepless. Plus we have to stay inside despite the nice weather, as he's feverish and his spots must not be exposed to direct sun to prevent scarring, dixit the ped.
