I need to do laundry and go to the supermarket today. But that means getting out of my pyjamas.

Dinnel delivery it is then!

Re: The First World Problem Thread

My bublaninas* raised too much. My raising powder is too efficient. My local fruits and the rest of the amazing local ingredients are too good to waste on raising powder that works too much.

And I baked for kids and neighbors and made me a cake too, exceptionally, which will make me too sleepy at the rehearsal. I will have to feed fellow sopranos. Life is so hard

Bublanina: (bublat means to bubble):

4 eggs, 2 cups of flower, 1 cup of sugar, 1 sachet of raising powder, lemon zest, vanilla sugar, 1/2 cup of oil and 1/4 cup milk. Bake 20min at 200deg and then the rest at 180deg (cca 40 min).

And, most of all - any fresh fruit in it. I also add a pinch of salt, rum essence or rum (little).

Some people put cream instead of milk, some make it liquidy (turns out very fresh and tender), some more bready. Which is another 1st World dilema, right?

I use the same recipe for ginger cake, instead of fruit I add ginger bread mix of spices (Coop Lebkuchen whatever it's called), 3 large spoons of dark and thick plum jam and chocolate bits (I cut reg 80% chocolate bar) and chocolate powder, if kids want. Some soda powder and make it wetter, more milk, since there aren't fruits.

It is a bit like Claffoutis but with more oumph, Bohemian.

Must try this with blueberries...
Raising powder means Backpulver/baking powder and not dried yeast, is that right?

Yes!

Blueberries are really good..the giant ones. Nectarines, apricots, plum, cherries, strawberries, raspberries.

You can add afew (2) drops of bitter almond essence with apricots/nectarines, so nice. It won't stick out to cover the fruit flavor but will blend nicely to cover the blah flour flavor.

Baking from good ingredients is too good.

Hahahah...I love the Off-topic bublanina.

Go rumage for fruits, which reminds me another FWP - there is too much food around to go for trendy urban foraging and making sense.

My other FWP - Gravensteiner apples on offer ended in a huge amount of them ending up here - need to find something to do with them - is apple bublanina possible?

It is a very good and worthy FW question. Uhm, I wouldn't do bubla with apples. Tart? I buy the quick tart dough, throw apples on, cinnamon, maple syrup and vanilla pudding as a bit of custardy bed under the apples. Sometimes walnuts on top. But it is a bit of a cheat-bake, takes a few mins when in a hurry.

I have little time these weeks. La rentrée hysteria is a major FWP.

Houses that are great for keeping the warmth in (or out, depending on the weather) but do bugger all for keeping one's neighbour's sex noises out.

Make a foam head cosy for Mr Rufus. Anonymously send your neighbours action films DVDs on Saturday evenings.

So true! Im planning the holiday for November 2017 now

On topic: These last minute days off are a killer to my wallet. Last minute plane tickets to warmer climates are expensive!

Re: The First World Problem Thread

My FWP today are parents in front of my windows who let their baby cry for half hour because they are both on their cellphones. A weird up-dated "cry-it-out" bs. I don't care for the noise nuissance but feel bad for the little one

Another FWP - I got too many things to play on the piano and too little time today. The choice to make...uuugh.

And last - my patience with math did not improve over the years, I gotta hire a math tutor for my little one. I think it is all DIY at home tutoring, outside of the first world, oder? The local school counts on parents compensating a lot, anyways. Things are explained but not practiced.
