Terrible Beard Grooming in Basel

For anyone from the Basel region reading this:

There is a hair salon that offers beard grooming, it is called Guy Diallo (Aeschenvorstadt in Basel), do not go there!!

My husband’s beard got completely butchered there and I thought I should share his experience with the hope that this doesn’t happen to anyone else. He has been growing his beard for close to a year now and he was now finally reaching a length that he was really excited about and then he made the mistake of getting it “professionally” groomed.

The first time he went to Guy Diallo everything was great, one of the women there gave him a good haircut and then the owner of the salon (he’s called Guy) shaped his beard. That time he did quite a good job, he showed my husband some photos of different beard styles to get an idea of which direction he was aiming for and he was quite careful not to trim too much. But that is already where the good experience ends.

The second time my husband went for his haircut and beard trim it was a completely different thing. To start with, the woman who had given him the good haircut suddenly didn’t work there anymore so the owner Guy did both. But instead of putting proper attention to what he was doing, he spent all the time talking about his passion for music, interrupting his own work flow constantly and then continuing somewhere else – needless to say the haircut didn’t turn out good.

But the real problem was the beard: He was so concerned with his monologue about music that he totally ruined my husband’s beard. Instead of just giving it a bit of shape without removing length (as it was agreed) he reduced the sides to the length of about 3 months growth – so in one careless clip he took off over half a year of growth. The chin area was left uneven but still long, so now it’s just a pointy beard instead of a evenly long one. And to top it off he decided to just trim the mustache really short without even asking if my husband wanted that. He left the top lip completely exposed but the sides of the mustache still sort of long (although also there he chopped off a lot, my husband had been paying particular attention to growing his mustache and it was already at a competition-worthy length) and all that because he was way too self-involved rather than putting some compromise into his work.

He does not have a clue how to groom beards so he shouldn’t be offering those services in his salon. Please do not go there, he will ruin your beard! And if you know someone with a beard who might consider getting it trimmed there, just tell them about this experience.

If you love your beard and like to look classy with it, don’t let anyone but yourself get his hands on it. Try to learn to groom it yourself (you will do a much better job at it than some “professional”), it is very easy for someone else to just ruin it - you trust them with your beard but they won’t care, most hair stylists don’t know anything at all about beards and they will just make you look worse…

Re: Beard Grooming

I havent shaved at home in the last 5 years.
that being said I have a very good network of barbers in most cities i go to.

Uraniastrasse 28, Zurich, Switzerland

For Zurich I would recommend the above place. Ask for either a Govan (junior) or Saleh (senior). Either would be able to take care of even the most rugged beards.
I took my dad there after a few months because he started sporting the Osama look...after about 20 minutes they transformed him into presentable looking person.
cannot recommend them enough!
