Stand-up Comedy, Open-Mic in Zürich

So instead of asking if one exists, I'm thinking of collaborating with a bar/lounge owner in Zürich to have open-mic night on Tuesday in Zürich, what do you think? Anyone interested in stand-up comedy as a spectator or comedian?

One does exist at the International Comedy Club at the Mascot... but you'd be one in the interval of a couple of pros. I know someone who's done it and someone else who's been trying to pluck up the courage for a while now

An all amateur night in a pub might be easier for him!

I'm sure you'll drum up enough interest if you go ahead and give people enough notice. Sounds great! Go for it!

I've just been reading about a restaurant on the Champs Elysees that specialises in omelets made with just one egg.

Apparently in Paris, one egg is un œuf.

Terrible yolk.

Op, great idea, I've been to a few open mic nights in the UK and I have to say, a lot of the time they are better than the pros.

Apparently trees were planted along the Champs Elysees so the Germans could march in the shade.

Sounds like a good idea, I've been looking for something like this in Zurich since I moved here last year. I have only ever done one 5 min slot (in the UK shortly before I moved here) it wasn't a complete disaster and I've been dying to get up and have another go. Do you think there's enough interest to get it going?

Brave to even give it a shot. I need a good laugh, go for it.

If you need a good laugh I suggest you go elsewhere - if you want poorly-constructed jokes, weak puns and trite observations followed by awkward, uncomfortable silences come along.

Out of interest how did your friend get on at the International Comedy Club?

I think they did ok. One problem is that you're on stage in front of a paying audience.... although I think some of the audience knew him so gave him support. But the biggest problem is that, with 2 massive spotlights on you, you can only see the first row of seats, everything else is a black wall. I know that in public speaking it's always easier if you can see the audience.

Is comedy actually legal in CH?

Just like for driving a car or owning a dog, you first need to pass an exam (theoretical and practical).

Great idea!! I'll come to visit, that is for sure, ( and might even take the mic and do some action... After all, I used to be a professional clown for many years...:)

Cheers, I did already - I emailed yesterday and I'm doing five minutes this Friday. Excited and terrified in equal measure.
