Hi,

I live in Dietikon, and I am registered with the EKZ via the landlord. The bills don't come very frequently anymore, prob about every quarter or half-yearly.

Dietikon is the 3rd or 4th largest Gemeinde in Kanton Zürich, and is rather "multi-faceted", and is rich in some things and deficient in others. Hopefully you are not living too close to the railway.
We don't live that far from the Bahnhof. I would say that it is about 5 minutes away from the place where we live. We can sometimes hear trains, but it doesn't really bother us because it isn't to close to the station.

You are renting? Then the landlord has done it.

PS: Your new provider is EKZ.
Well, not everything is the same in the whole Canton. Garbage is collected by Frei Kloten, a private company working for Glattbrugg-Oprfikon-Glattpark. Energy in Glattbrugg is provided by Energie Opfikon AG a private company owned by Opfikon.-Glattbrugg-Glattpark

Dietikon with its 26'000 inhabitants (above 10'000) is a "Stadt" (city) and so not only has its parliament and its government and its Stadtpolizei (city police) but has the right to do whatever it wants itself

Re: Electricity in Dietikon

Just found this thread. Did you get a bill yet amandals8879?
I also just moved into Dietikon in January and was wondering about this, but then we got something in the mail from EKZ and it was all automatically done by our landlord. Looks like our bills will be quarterly. I was quite happy that I didn't have to call anyone or do anything Hopefully yours worked out similarly.

Re: Electricity in Dietikon

When I first came to Zürich I often confused Dietikon with Dietlikon. I then learnt to remember than Dietikon is the one that has an IKEA (there's no L in IKEA, see) until I discovered that Dietlikon has one too, and it wasn't even called IKLEA. I bet they did that intentionally.

Now I simply remember that Dietlikon is close to Glattbrugg whereas Dietikon is close to Gattbrugg.

Simples (or depending on where you live, simpes)

Re: Electricity in Dietikon

Ha! This is SO true

I knew Dietikon before we moved here (my parents live nearby), but my boyfriend had huge problems with the naming, especially as we were running around looking at apartments in places that differ by 1 letter - "which town was that one again?" I also knew there was an Ikea in both places, so that didn't help him :P

When we finally found a place in Dietikon he was all exited, because it turns out that they have an open hockey night in the winter (he's Canadian).... so, when we moved in a couple months later and he looked into it again, turns out he was once again pretty disappointed to be fooled by that evil extra letter of Dietlikon.
Sigh!!

You are still confused.
a) Dietikon DOES NOT have an IKEA (it is in the neighbouring town of Spreitenbach, which belongs to Kanton Aargau.)
b) There is no such place as Gattbrugg, not around Dietikon anyway.

But there's no ikea in Dietikon... The closest one is Spreitenbach.

See, Dietlikon has the "L", for "left". Clearly the L is on the right side of Zürich on the map, as everything's backwards in Switzerland.

Re: Electricity in Dietikon

Yes, there's no Ikea in Dietikon - we know now that it's actually in Spreitenbach, but when you first move here, it's really easy to think that it's actually in Dietikon, and that actually does help with getting your bearings in a new place with names you're just trying to get used to

Re: Electricity in Dietikon

The first Media Markts around Zurich were in Dietlikon and Dietikon.

Dietikon is nearer to Birmenstorf, Birmensdorf, Oetwil an der Limmat and Canton Aargau.
Dietlikon is nearer to Basserdorf, Oetwil am See, and Canton Thurgau.

Dietlikon has a Toys 'r us' and a Burger King. The next ones to Dietikon are in Spreitenbach.

Digitec is in Dietikon. Buchman and Conrad in Dietlikon.

Both have a Frish Fish Mercato.

What helps? If you like to watch a movie in a multiplex you have to go to Dietlikon. Dietikon has just a small movie thater.

See, I told you they did it on purpose. So now I can remember that the place without the L has no IKLEA because the IKEA is really in Spleitenbach (which doesn't exist either).

And now that DB has explained that Dietikon now has electricity, I can't even use the trick of remembering the one with the L doesn't have the eLectricity.

They really don't make stuff simple in Swiss, do they?
