| | Where should I shop for a stand up freezer?
I will be looking to purchase a stand up freezer for our storage room in a few weeks. We will be moving to Luzern from Russia so I am not sure where to shop to get a good price on one. Which stores would you recommend?

We bought ours from Nettoshop and got a veritable bargain! They have a big choice and will deliver.

Got mine at Aldi - but they only have them at certain times, and right now isn't one of them...

I would wait a while until someone sells one on here.

Check out the For Sale section here on EF. There are a few currently listed, but you will want to wait until you are here to make the purchase. Kind of important to know your space availability before purchasing such an item. |

You can see most of the popular brands on Toppreise http://en.toppreise.ch/grp1_467.html...&def=32#328553
There are over 300 listed. Decide on size, style, brand price etc. then order via one of the on-line vendors.
Just keep in mind that most deliveries are to the entrance of the house. It is up to you to get it into where you want it so have some friends on call for the delivery.

I would also recommend FUST for that. They usually also offer good customer service and advisory!

Don't be surprised when you pay a disposal fee on purchase.

Just to share our experience - we ended up buying a stand-up freezer last week from Conforama - our local store is at Granges-Paccots, near Fribourg.
I ordered it online, but talked to someone from the shop to make sure they would deliver it to our flat, on the second floor - which they did, for 60 CHF!
They could have delivered it 48 h after the transaction, but it was easier for us to have it done at a later date. The only issue is that you can specify the date, but can only know about the time-frame for delivery the day before.
They gave me a call yesterday, told me they would come between 8:30 and 9:30 today, and everything was set up by 8:40 this morning! Overall, we were quite happy with the service!

Conforama have some great deals on applicances. They often come with an EU plug and supply a Swiss adapter with it.

We got ours from http://mp-hausgeraete.ch/ which was the best price for a Liebherr at the time.

Is that still a good choice?

I bought ours at Media Markt but think that Migros & Fust have excellent service if you ever have a problem they are easy to deal with! Media Markt service is okay but not as good as the previous 2.

Never had to defrost it.

FWIW the new model is a No-Frost.
General question: how useful is a separate freezer for a family of four? OH says we don't need it, but our fridge's freezer is always chock-full.

We are a family of 3 and I find it very useful. I cook big batches of things and freeze them in portion size containers.
Our 15 year old son can take one out and heat it up for himself if we're not around.

I think, there is a Media markt in Konstanz just across the border, they normally have decent selection.

I got mine at Landi. It was 299 CHF for 7 drawers. It works great and we have only had frost problems when my kids leave the doors open. They don't usually keep them in stock, but we got ours on 3 days.
