Whos in the sticks aswell?!

Im wondering who else is either up a mountain, or surrounded by fields, or in the middle of a deep forest, or maybe the only person under 40 in there village, and dying to socialise?
Im living (until it gets cold) in a little village called guggisberg, and its dead! Im a very sociable person, like to go to different places, and also have a beer everynow and then, but the people i live with are all swiss and they think im strange to want to go to a beer garden when the sun shines lol..
maybe there are some cool people to meet that arnt far away from here?

anyone else in the middle of no where?!

Re: Whos in the sticks aswell?!

Have you not yet discovered that hot bed of nightlife in Riffenmatt, yet?
I'm surprised you can't hear the thump thump of the raves, that go on most nights - and never enough men to go round.

Have you ever seen four old men sitting round a table in a bar, banging cards down on a square, green carpet-like mat making loads of noise, arguing, laughing and getting agitated with the one opposite?

Re: Whos in the sticks aswell?!

My daughter thought life here was too intense, so moved the the boonies above Locarno.

After several years, she decided that the three hour commutes to BF's were too long, so moved to the boonies of Bern last year.

She likes the boonies.

There is a more or less frequent bus to SCHWARZENBURG and a rail connection from there to Bern

Re: Whos in the sticks aswell?!

10 years ago I moved to a little village in the sticks. Life was good.

But time marches relentlessly on - and gradually my little village morphed into a Zürich dormitory suburb.

Feeling suburbia closing in, I spent several years searching for pastures new - but every time I found a pasture, someone paved it over with concrete boxes. (Cue Joni Mitchell...)

I'm back back home in Nowheresville, Indiana now - that's real boondocks. And it feels good.

I would not love to live in "Nowheresville", but in a number of years may relocate to a place up the Zürisee like Thalwil or Horgen or Wädenswil or Richterswil.... orf maybe the other side of the lake. Wollishofen is too overcrowded and a bit too much in the shadow. Favourites would be Thalwil and Horgen.

and btw. what is the name of that "dormitory suburb" ?

We meet once a month on a Tuesday for a cheap dinner in Bern. I don't think we have seen you there yet. We usually finish around 9 pm, so to get home on the train & bus, you must leave us at 8 pm. Goodness me, you really are in the sticks! Can you cycle from Schwarzenburg station?

Ha, ha, ha ...... with a belly full of food and beer - and up hill all the way. Something for the foxes, at least.

You have no idea what are you missing. Besides, nowhere around Zürichsee is "Nowheresville" enough, leider.

Not for good - just chillin' in the cornfields for a while.

Too true.

I kept having to look farther and farther afield in my quest for a bit of green that was likely to stay green for another decade or so. Not many options for those of us who prefer the 'Nowheresville' lifestyle yet still have to earn our daily bread.

(I'm currently thinking of Vermont, maybe Maine, for retirement. Sort of Switzerland-ish, but with breathing room.)
