In the German part, both Co-op and Migros have a lot of what you probably want in the way of food and the various reformhaus shops have loads of bio/eco cleaning products.

There are loads of bio farms where you can buy organic produce directly.

No way! I don't approve of Bio products,

1. it's a big rip off

2. who wants to live an extra 5 years in a home?

3. the bio cleaning products don't work, so you end up throwing 3 times the chemicals down the drain!

But not the "widest range" as requested by the OP.

About two weeks ago Migros had bunches of 'bio' radishes for sale for Fr.4.90 !!! That's more than a rip off.

I generally approve of bio food, it usually tastes better and gives you the "it's natural" feeling IMO...although for the time being I prefer buying my vegetables and fruits (don't think they're bio) from the farms across the road. They could also be falling into the rip-off category, but taste (and freshness)wise are hard to beat. Besides, I know they use organic fertilizers...it smells like cow manure most of the time. How can I not buy my milk from the farm, when I see the cute cows where it comes from?
Meat is a real, real rip-off, it's even more expensive than in shops, but farm sausages/pastrami/etc. are not making such a huge hole in my budget. And they're excellent.

Btw, I wholeheartedly agree with you on the bio cleaning products...they don't work! Or are just average, only much more expensive and with a better smell.
I'd rather use vinegar or baking soda...much cheaper..
So, those who live close to a farm...take advantage!

Hello
In Konstanz (DE), directly after Kreuzlingen (CH) there is a big bio-supermarket and of course much less expensive than the bio-supermarkets in CH:

And it only takes two hours there and back from Zurich in one's huge 4 x 4.

But, one must save the planet, eh?

Re: Organic/Bio foods

Great news for anyone close to Winterthur. Migros opened their first Alnatura Bio Food Store November 27, 2014. It's right next to the Aldi in Grüze and the Fust electrical store. 10% discount off your food bill Nov 27-29 and they pack your groceries like in the States.

They have a good range of bio, vegan plus other deli type products.

Opening times are Monday thru Saturday, 8AM to 8PM.

Yes, you get Cumulus points too.

Re: Organic/Bio foods

On the French side of the border there are bigger stores (than in CH) offering greater choice of organic products.
There is a Satoriz store (http://www.satoriz.fr) in Ferney-Voltaire, very close to the border, and another one in Val Thoiry, also not very far.

However, the biggest selection IMO is available in BioFrais, in Saint-Julien-en-Genevois (see http://www.biofrais.com/). It's really a big store, like a 2M Migros, full of with bio products! But a little bit more expensive than Satoriz.

Additionally, Carrefour (http://www.carrefour.com/) also offers wide range of organic products, at a lower price than Satoriz or BioFrais.

Re: Organic/Bio foods

I once had an excursion to an organic farm and found the cows there were generally not happy at all . Some others who were there even thought about being vegetarian...

Re: Organic/Bio foods

Just for your info - I received in my mail box a discount voucher for a new company that do organic food deliveries - in Zurich.

The website is currently only in German but the nice gentleman I emailed (Tobias) said they're planning to put other languages including English soon, and meantime you can email him and he can translate anything if you want to order.

Anyway, the prices are excellent, better than the supermarket (I was only looking at the price of organic mushrooms yesterday, so I am sure), and if you are interested you can try them here: https://www.farmy.ch/

Full disclosure: I actually haven't got anything to do with these guys

Apologies if this reply would be better elsewhere, but I thought this thread was ideal.

I generally find the Coop bio range to be more attractive than the equivalent Migros stuff, both in terms of quality and choice. Migros is often marginally cheaper though.

"Organic" food is no more nutritious or "safe" than conventional food, but is a hell of a lot more expensive. It's one of the world's biggest cons.
