Re: Cheap laptops - worth importing em?

there used to be a shop near Stauffacher doing this. It closed down.

There are brokers already in Switzerland doing this.....200-400 per machine. We use one - we'll flood the market with some Lenovos in the coming year or so.

How's he going to beat them and keep the price down with the keyboard switch?

Not everyone is an expat earning a decent wage, students, minimum wage earners etc who can only afford 100 chuffs for a PC for instance.

Lots of people don't trust auction sites either.

He asked me if there was a market here, I'm trying to find out
To be honest with you BB if you are a minimum wage earner here then you'll probably be enjoying an interdiscount or M-Electronics special. Not great specs, but way better than the specs of the kit posted in that spreadsheet screenshot.

I'm not trying to do you down here, but Switzerland is probably not the best place to try to sell functional "elektroschrott".

This is just my opinion of course.

He only needs to change a few key tops and ensure the correct keyboard software is on board.
That's what I said ;-)

With what little information you have provided, the answer is no. WOuld have made more sense for him to register and ask himself so that he could have provided more detailed info on his model and warranty etc etc.

Re: Cheap laptops - worth importing em?

I recently was looking for a super cheap PC (desktop not laptop) for someone. ie. sub 150CHF. There were many dealers on Ricardo offering old company stock and nearly all used "Buy it Now". I tracked many of them over several weeks and it seems they rarely sold. I think the market would be brutal.

I ended up with a PC for 56CHF plus 25CHF postage from a private seller. Another 20CHF for a better graphics card, installed Windows 8 and it's running great.
