Is it a holiday in Switzerland this Thursday?

Sorry for the stupid question, but my bank told me that banks will be closed this Thursday (October 2nd) due to Holiday, but I am unable to find any other mention of a holiday on this date.
Are banks closed this Thursday?
Are supermarkets closed this Thursday?

Thanks you.

Could be a Catholic holiday? If so, then businesses in Germany will be closed too.

I don't live in or around Luzern, so I can't tell you about most supermarkets, but these are opening times for Coop. Click on the various Coops on the left for individual opening times, it looks like some are open and some are closed.

Uh, no, it seems he was correct, at least for the city itself. Did you spot this post?

Re: Is it a holiday in Switzerland this Thrursday?

Okay, I see. I guess this is more complicated then I thought. Should look at the Kanton level holidays.

Are Supermarkets in Luzern also close on that day then?

Like Switzerland there are some catholic and some protestent regions of Germany so consequently there are certain holidays that are observed in some but not in others.

Like Belgiunmum says, some areas are what they call "strong" Catholic areas and therefore all the businesses close for those holiday days.

Sometimes I sail into my side of Germany to go shopping - to find every shop shut. This side is a Catholic strong-hold. And on those days Switzerland shopping booms.

Re: Is it a holiday in Switzerland this Thursday?

2nd October appears to be unique to the City of Luzern as St Leodegar is the city's patron saint. The whole of the rest of Switzerland and all neighbouring countries are unaffected.

What`s that got to do with it? It`s also national foundation day in South Korea . . let`s throw that in as well.
