What to bring in bulk

What are some things you would suggesting I bring in bulk? Deodorant? Razors? foods? cleaners? anything you wish you brought enough of.

Bring these: Deodorant? Razors? cleaners?
We don't have those here!
It's better to buy them in bulk abroad and get highly taxed when importing them than living without!

Well I'm sorry if my question seems dumb to some of you. We are being relocated so I'm not paying for items to be shipped. We are a family of 5 and I understand things are much more expensive over there. Sarcasm really isn't necessary thank you

What she said.

...My OH is picky about what deodorant and fragrance I use, so I stocked up on those. Also, many over-the counter American "drugstore" items like ibuprofin, aspirin, your favorite cold/allergy meds, etc., are much more expensive here.

And depending on how much you're into Texas "staples" you may want to lug along some Pace picante sauce, Ro-Tel tomatoes & green chilies (& Velveeta), Fritos, fresh-made tortillas, and so on (NOTE: Seriously, if jalapeños are a regular part of your diet (whether on nachos, hamburgers or in general cooking), you must bring them with you. The "jalapeños" available here are the mushiest, blandest, most devoid of heat, and (therefore) poorest excuses for jalapeños. Trappey's are number one on my list.).

Re: What do bring in bulk

When I go to the UK, I return with:

- proper smoked back bacon
- proper sausages
- real flavoured crisps
- razor blades
- bedding if needed

A mixture of wanting home comforts / refusal to spend prices here on such items

Re: What do bring in bulk

If I could have, I would have bulk-packed Target. The whole store
Two things I harassed my visiting friends about were Altoids and Reese's mini peanut butter cups. Yes, I know Swiss chocolate is awesome, but when you crave your Reese's, you do, punkt.

Totally get the bit about buying in bulk when being relocated - a friend of mine was just relocated on a 2-year gig to a country where imported products are crazy expensive, and I went through the same thought process with her.

If I were you I would buy a lot of sports gear, jeans, sneakers - much more expensive and way more limited choice in Switzerland, and you'll need it if you are into hiking/skiing. If you have favorite brands of non-perishable products (deodorants, sunscreen, lotion...) I'd stock up, as well as over-the-counter meds. I find American aspirin superior/more effective to the one I find in Europe.

My abovementioned friend packed I don't know how many boxes of Kraft mac'n'cheese - YUCK! I would say, but who am I to judge? (see Reese's reference above).

Re: What do bring in bulk

Just some thoughts:

Plug adapter cubes from US to swiss configuration. For most of your small electronics (phones, laptops, items with own voltage cube) they step up the voltage autamatically. We brought 5...and then ordered 5 more. Same goes for US surge protectors if you already purchased big transformers.

Men's deodorant for sure if you like the combo stick. They are available in France but harder to find here.

Reses peanut cups. rare find here. You can find most things though...just not reses it seems.

If any one uses in your family uses neutragena 'naturals' they do not exist in europe. You'll have to switch to nivea products mostly.

Baboo skewers seem to be harder to find unless you live near an asian grocer.

if you have a big one...your BBQ. They have them here too...but at triple the cost. A weber is very expesnive here...some Rolexs are cheaper.

In general most things can be found. But...it all depends on where you will be living though.

HUMOUR!

(Now, for a change i'm deadly serious also).

Obviously you're not having a lot of it where you live, and yet you'll need to bring a lot more to be able to survive here in Switzerland.

Anyway, welcome!

Yes and yes (perhaps stock up on footwear in general — hiking shoes/boots, dress shoes, even house slippers if applicable (especially where known brands and models are already your comfort favorites) — as you can pay up to double or more for the same quality here, sometimes without ever finding an affordable local counterpart).
