Re: Your favourite French language movie

Although not a film, I enjoyed the cop series Engrenages. It's a really gritty dark drama. I just hope it's not too accurate: no-one comes out of it well. All the politicians seem to be venal and incompetent, the cops stupid and incompetent and the criminal justice system simply incompetent. All of the characters, even the likeable (possibly even loveable) ones have really major character flaws.

Cupid has become a little unpopular
Re: Your favourite French language movie

I have never seen a French movie till, I arrived in here and started to understand some French. There are many good French movies I have seen these couple of months. I would have to go with Qu'est ce qu'on a fait bon dieu for now.

Great film, a must if you haven't seen it yet.
That was a great movie. However, I tried to watch it again not too long ago and I have to say it didn't age well. Don't know why. I turned it off a third of the way in.

Another of my favorites.

One that I saw not too long ago which I loved, it was soo cute, was Wikipedia reference-linkLes_Émotifs_anonymes. Very funny, quirky and sweet.

i respectfully disagree i watch that movie when i feel i could lose my sh** (about 2 times a year) and it always delivers. i never get tired if it.

but you could stick to the first scene and already you have your moneys worth

BTW it is 'les bronzés' (not 'ées) as for a group of males and females, not just females.
I know. The spell check on the iPad just randomly changes spelling of words in a foreign language and I couldn't be bothered to go back and edit it after I'd posted it,

Re: Your favourite French language movie

To add to some great TV shows already suggested, Canal+ has done some great work in the recent past to give their series more international appeal:
- Mafiosa: a woman inherits a mafia empire in Corsica
- Engrenages : the relationships between different players of the police / judiciary system
- Kaboul Kitchen: a French expat in Kaboul tries to keep his expat-friendly restaurant afloat while dealing with his new-found daughter
- Braquo: a police squad has to get closer to the yellow line to defend his own
- Borgia: the rise and destiny of a peculiar Pope

Shame I live out in the sticks- as I have space for a ciné-Club- could meet once a month here to watch a good French film and then discuss (in French).

For a French film, that's a minimum.
