Hi all. new to this site, i've been in basel for about 6 months now and was wondering about where and how i can buy e-cigarettes. i've heard they help people quit smoking and i read they are much cheaper too.

does anyone know a good place i can buy them in Basel and are there age limits on purchase?

cheers, f.sanders

Try the Davidoff tobacconist outside Basel SBB Train station (Next to Burger King), they have a good selection of e cigs.

Pretty much any tabacconist in basel will have them. They are on nearly any main street.

You must have seen them before?

The best selection can be found just across the border in Weil am Rhein. The owner of the shop at Berlinerplatz is very helpful and will let you try out different mixtures in the shop. He has a big selection of liquids sold throughout France E-cigs

You can order online here http://www.greensmoke.ch/

They are the best "normal" looking e-cigarettes.

Re: purchase of e-ciggarettes

I understand liquid nicotine is controlled, and can't be sold over the counter in Switzerland. Although Switzerland is a main producer of it. So you can buy devices, but the liquids contain no nicotine.

Alternatively, you can find websites that sell it, and they are very popular in France. So if you cross over the border, Carrefour in Mulhouse for example, you can find them over the counter.

If you buy through mail order, you would want to limit your purchase to around 60CHF. Otherwise, you can incur import duties.

I bought a set from this site: http://e-clope.ch. I first called by phone, and the site owner was very helpful and provided good advice.

.
Its best to buy in bulk and pay the duties if you are buying a specific brand and cartridges like in the link I provided. Saves on delivery costs in the long run.

Tell that to Werners Head Shop.

e-clope. Excellent name - like e-fag in British English.

Re: purchase of e-ciggarettes

Glad I stopped, some years back, cold turkey method, so I now don't have to look like a tart, with a bit of plastic in my mouth for my nicotine fix.

Do any Brits remember those legal E's, promoted by The Sun, in the early 90's?
You had to mail order them, with a coupon from the paper, and ended up with a few tabs - each containing the equivalent nicotine content of about 20 Woodbines, plus 10 expressos worth of caffeine, to boot.

Dunno about a legal high, but you ended walking around with a red head and prickly skin, for a couple of hours.
Needless to say, they didn't last long, before some nanny-state authority pulled the plug.

Re: purchase of e-ciggarettes

While waiting for the tram at Morgartenring I noticed there was what appeared to be a dedicated shop for e-cigs.

Funny thing was, as the owner locked up for the day, he lit up a regular ciggy!

You'll also find that the swiss border guards are very keen on people buying the nicotine liquid in France.... so that they can confiscate it. The fines, etc. are a very welcome source of income here in Geneva.
It's banned in Switzerland and you're not supposed to import the stuff, you can take a risk smuggling it though.

Re: purchase of e-ciggarettes

Really? I always thought that you cannot buy it in Switzerland but that it is OK to import for private use (at least the ones with nicotine)

Re: purchase of e-ciggarettes

"Légal? «Il est bien sûr défendu de faire de la pub et de vendre un produit officiellement interdit en Suisse, rappelle Didier Ortelli."
Legal? It is of course forbidden to advertise or sell a product that's officially banned in Switzerland.....
From this article that appeared in the Tribune de Geneve in May (sorry, in french).
http://www.tdg.ch/geneve/actu-genevo...story/10241150

The situation is rather annoying for people that insist on using the things, but refills that contain nicotine are not sold legally in Switzerland; it is possible to buy them in France (and presumably Germany) but you're not supposed to import them, even for private use. A lot of people do, but if you're caught you risk the stuff being confiscated and a fine.

Solution? Don't take up the habit in the first place.....

Hi
I have started to smoke e-cig 4 months ago. I smoke now much less tobaco cigarets than before. Yes, it's much cheaper to smoke e-cig than normal cigs.
You need to buy a e-cig. Cost is around CHF 40 for good quality. You will buy also e-liquid. Price is of around CHF 10. With one e-luiquid you can smoke e-cig during several days.
In Switzerland you cannot find e-liquid with nicotine. In France you can. In my opinion it's important to have liquid with nicotine. Without it can be very hard to stop to smoke !
