Another location of choice are the SBB waiting rooms by the tracks. (or at least they tend to smell like someone's been relieving themselves in there )
Or the stairwells in multi storey car park buildings. They always stink of stale pee too.

Re: To pay or not to pay-Migros city.

I am sure you are mistaken about having to pay. In the Migros Take Away in the Baden Metroshop you pay 1 chf for a jeton to use the toilet but at the same time you receive a voucher for chf 1 which is valid towards a purchase.

If you feel very strongly about the matter, why not post on Migros' community page? You can rant there (and if you are indeed wrong you will be told so).

Well I went to the restaurant in the new Migros city ( Zürich ). Wanted to go to the toilet and saw that the bastards want 1 Frank for the service. Thats offensive. I can't think of one restaurant in Switzerland that makes you pay a frank to use their toilet. So I did a high jump over the barrier.!Fick them.
Did you actually consume anything or just wanted to use the facilites ?

Migros pay for the cleaner's wage, the water, the electricity, & maybe the towels, so you could share the cost couldn't you?
Not if I buy something there or eat/drink at the restaurant.

It's called customer service. (I know it's an alien concept to many Swiss and some (too) long-time expats... )

It wasn't until post #26 did we learn that he had actually bought something there.

There are many places in downtown demanding payment for the use of the toilet. BUT many places give a JETON if you order something and then it is free of Charge

If you are a paying customer, I don't see why you should be charged to use their facilities.

In many places in downtown Zürich you have to demand of the waiter a JETON for the toilet

Our local Coop has free toilets - they used to be open but kept getting vandalised. Now you have to ask the cashier for a key. I know some places like McDo's have a coin operated loo entrance, customers can ask for a "jeton" - non-customers stump up a chuff.

Maybe Migros City operates something similar?

Cheers,
Nick

I am sure they do. But have not yet been there since they re_opened -- Most of the CH Tamils now understand dialect, provided you speak clearly. So that language is not the problem really

I will collect some of those "jetons" and send them to Mercer, just in case they actually visit the country for the next quality of life study.
