What are the so called scare stories of cross border shopping that people have mentioned here?

I went to Liechtenstein and it was deserted. The prices weren't noticibly different.

Liechtenstein is in full currency union with Switzerland

No scare stories. If you live close to the border you can get things (not everything) much cheaper across the border. But you of course have to bear in mind the transport-costs and the time. For example, I prefer Konstanz over Jestetten and Waldshut, even if things in Konstanz are rather more expensive than in those two places, but Konstanz is nice. Jestetten makes sense if combined with Schaffhausen but alone it is a Kaff

And Switzerland thanks Konstanz for been a great day trip. Folks calling for the SBB to reduce capacity on the Zurich <-> Konstanz line is bizarre in the free world but thats the country we live in.

Bizarre.
At the weekend Thomas Minder, Ständerat (like MP or county councillor) was saying people who buy over the border are "unpatriotic".
This is the guy who advertises in Germany for staff to work in his Swiss company.

So in other words most of the shops in Switzerland are also unpatriotic since they import their goods from outside Switzerland. So if the shops do it and then effect a massive markup whats wrong with all the people going outside to do it also.

I should be allowed to spend the money how I choose and why would you pay more to shop in Switzerland just because you live here!

About "if the shops do it and then effect a massive markup..." Mostly the shops effect a relatively small markup; it is the "sole importers" who make big markups and drive up the prices. If you have a sole importer who charges "normal" prices then shop prices for those goods are comparable to the best of the surrounding countries.

Re: The invasion of Konstanz, Jestetten & Waldshut & Lörrach starts shortly

Been today to Lörrach (Germany) and St.Louis (France)
There is business as usual, not many shoppers from Switzerland, i think it is a
bubble created by the media.
I don't buy more in germany (compared to what i bought before the sfr was above 1.20 sfr per euro) or france because i don't need more and the allowances are still the same.
Take Advantage of the vending machine from the DB(german rail) at the SBB station , the ticket
Tri regio mini will cost you there only 7 Euros (ro around 7 sfr), at a swiss vending machine it is still 10.50 sfr(BVB or SBB).

You're completely right...well, I'll continue to travel by bus, from ZH to KN only 10 CHF and non-stop driving (60 minutes from ZH Limmastr. to KN Döbele)

I plan to bring goods which I have bought for 260 euro across the border by train from Konstanz on Saturday. Should I be worried about customs checks?

Provide your own latex gloves and lubricant and it will be a breeze.

The limits are well known.

And if above the limits, you declare.

And what sort of goods?

well as long as the up to the minute exchange rate is being applied, then I won't have any problem.

The negative effects in Waldshut are already visible: they changed some free parking to a 15min paid zone
