Exchange Student to EPFL Lausanne from Jan to Jun 2016

HELLO!

I am from Singapore and i would be going to EPFL for my uni exchange program. Can i know more about life at Lausanne? How is it different from Singapore? E.g. food, expenses, cultural differences, teaching methods etc.

Thank you!

Re: Exchange Student to EPFL Lausanne from Jan to Jun 2016

I can't tell you about the difference Lausanne-Singapore, but only about what it's like to come as a foreigner to Lausanne and EPFL.

It's absolutely awesome
EPFL is fantastic, there is a lot of different style caffeterias so you can choose what suits you best for that day. Price for lunch is around 10CHF.

Rent prices are around 500-1200CHF per month for a room in a flat share or a small apartment, depending on where you stay. I was in Renens, it was 30min by foot or 10min by metro to EPFL and 5min to Lausanne by train. If you are planning on staying in a student dorm make sure to check in advance when the applications are (or look for someone to sublet it). The secretary of the lab I was in was really helpful with finding accommodation, so I suggest you also talk with yours about this.

Living cost is.. well, depending on your lifestyle. I usually ate at home, and didn't go out much. Ended up spending around 500CHF/month, mostly on groceries. If you'll travel more or go our more, this can quickly rise.
