This seems like an appropriate place to post this..

Die Göttliche Ordnung - Swiss women before they got the right vote - wonderful film but available only in CH DE so far. Went to see it this weekend simply wonderful, even Mr. Aleydis enjoyed it

Happy 8th of March to all women out there, regardless of your political affiliation.

Some things are worth celebrating....else we forget how far we've come.

Hate to point out the bleeding obvious but did anyone actually organise themselves to tart up a Google Doodle for men's day, or did everyone just wait, slack-jawed, for someone else to do it?

There is a lot to be said for "If you want something doing, do it yourself" and as my dad would have finished it off with "...and stop your whining."

Did we have the same dad?

Hate to put a downer on things, but last night was the first time I've actually watched Jess Phillip's annual Women's Day speech in the Commons where she reads out the names of the women killed by their partners in domestic abuse scenarios over the previous year. It's very sobering.

I'm all for equality but it's not what these "special days" are creating.. My office is all pink and flowers are being handed to woman.. Men are being asked to sign a pledge that they will do a number of things, one of those being to mentor a woman.. WFT, why?

I dunno but i guess the women just want equality, not to be mentored by me or get a flower.

Oh I know it works both ways Loz. I've seen it with 2 guys who are close friends, plus my OH once had an abusive girlfriend. With one guy, it was us (his female friends) who intervened and got him out of the relationship.

Sounds like they've missed the point spectacularly! Why do the women only get to be mentored? Do you work in the 1962 Mad Men office?

Lol.

His woman might not be so happy about this way of celebrating her chick day.

He might have to get her flowers after quitting his job.

To mentor a female colleague?

The guys won't be jealous that they don't "get mentored"?

If any of you would like to sign up for a mentoring session just let me know.

I can mentor on a whole range of things.

Talking about missing the point massively. Giving flowers is or could be nice, although not exactly a must. Offering to "mentor" female colleagues is....weird? Wanted to say condescending but it's obviously an understatement.

Perhaps your office does need a women's day after all...(not the kind they envision though lol)
