Whatever the benefits of e cigs over normal cigarettes are doesn't alter the fact that the people look using them look really stupid in my opinion.
The whole shape and size of them looks ridiculous to me but they do have the advantage of being odourless and therefore less offensive to non smokers and may have health benefits for ex smokers so not all bad.

Does anyone know anyone who has given up nictotine completely through E-cigarettes?

They would normally use e-cigs at home when it's cold, snowy or rainy outside for those who smoke on the balcony, otherwise it's business as usual.
E-cigs are used by smokers in the same way somene would use a Shisha pipe in the house.
On a slightly off topic, it is considered very rude in the Asian culture to smoke front of their elders, because smoking is something bad that shouldn't be advertised to others while smoking it. However, on the flip side, it is acceptable for elders to smoke front of youngsters, which I find extremely hippocritical, as if smoking is considered bad then no one should be smoking it front of each other regardless of age.
Tobacco companies are nowadays substituting quitters from the west and pushing their poison more towards the east as there's less information and lack of education on the harmful effects of smoking, and I guess it's also easier to bribe third world officials to push their poison.

The jury is out on e-cigarettes- and I agree it is not sufficiently researched and tested. It would be interesting to have figures- but in my experience all the ones I know who switched to e-cigarettes in the attempt to stop smoking, switched back to real cigarettes after a while.
If they did keep people safe or safer and helped people stop smoking (especially those who have small children who really would like their parents to stay fit and healthy and see them into adulthood- I'll always remember the day my girls begged me to stop- and I just did, cold turkey)- then I really would not give a monkey's about it a looking 'stupid' - really! Who cares what it looks like- but only if it does keep you safe (and I agree motivation might be very different for those who have children- as your life is no longer just your own).

Also, two other friends of mine who I recommended them to a long time ago. | Quote: | | | | Nope, e-cigs don't make smokers quit, they use e-cigs as a supplement to their normal cigarettes. | | Re: Why do so many people in Zurich smoke? | Quote: | | | | | Does anyone know anyone who has given up nictotine completely through E-cigarettes? | | | | | Yes. I know several ex-smokers who went through an e-cig phase and now don't use any nicotine.
I also know people who never smoked cigarettes who started using e-cigs as part of a nootropic stack (it's an effective cognitive enhancer). Some still do it, some don't.
Smoking or nicotine use isn't so binary. I'm ostensibly a non-smoker but will occasionally bum a fag if sitting with a smoker having an espresso after lunch on a nice sunny day. I wouldn't dream of buying any though.

Why not? This is a free country. Minorities have to be protected. No one is obliged to smoke. But some tolerance and largesse is needed.

Not yet, but in the Pipeline. There apparently already is a law against pissing in rail-stations

An interesting Norwegian report on e-cigarettes.
Summary in English http://www.fhi.no/dokumenter/136f741b1e.pdf
Full document in Norwegian only. http://www.fhi.no/dokumenter/b07c71ad3e.pdf
I remarked during a trip to the UK last week that some pubs seemed to allow e-cigarettes to be 'smoked' whilst others ( the majority it seemed to me) had notices up saying that they were being treated the same as conventional cigarettes for the moment and therefore banned inside the premises.

Why would anybody want to ban urination in public places? Before you know it, they'll be banning shooting up in town squares, and then what are the yoof of today going to do?

Draconian is the tendency to have a law for almost everything
Not only in Switzerland, but here it takes the more bizarre forms than elsewhere
