Is there a Swiss equivalent of UK's Freeview?

Hi all,

I don't watch much TV so not keen on getting a cable package but when I do turn the TV on it would be good to have local channels. Is there a Swiss equivalent of the UK's Freeview? eg. I just buy a box, plug it in and get a basic set of channels? No need for a wide variety of channels - even if it's German only channels that's fine, it will help me learn German as well.

I did a search on the forum and couldn't find a similar question so hope this hasn't been asked previously. Cheers

Get an antenna for the TV and you should be able to pick DVB-T broadcasts in clear (choose the Antenna as the connection in the TV setup and scan). There aren't many of them though around Zurich as I understand... Normally should be SF Eins, SF Zwei, possibly RTS Un & RSI Uno.

Wilmaa has a box that has similar functionality to a Freeview box for a one-off fee of 199chf http://www.wilmaa.com/en/freetv/box

PS: I'm assuming you have already tried local TV, because that is simply a case of plugging in an aerial...

If you have a live Cablecom connection in your place, you can simply plug in the TV - CC also do send you a basic (free!) box to receive HD channels, if you request it, no package required for a few more-or-less local channels.
