Number seven tram
rumbling along my street
It's quite hard to sleep.

Is it really Spring?
It seems to rain all the time.
Blossom on the trees.

On the Bahnhofstrasse
people just crash into me
Obliviously.

What's with the shopping?
I look all around, but no...
There's no Vegemite :-(

Eight francs for a pint?
It must be a joke, maybe.
What do others think?

Yes you're right, Nathu
Swiss beer is better, of course :-)
I should drink it more

...

Some things are quite cool!
Walk over the Bellevue bridge
Mountains far away

Or the Niederdorf
Buskers in the Lindenhof
What's that guy smoking?

Not sure re the cows...
Their sleepy clanging echoes
in the summer alps

They define the cheese:
ubiquitous Emmental
is very tasty

I do like it here.
It's hard to get complacent
It keeps me on my toes

As for Swiss landscapes -
The place is so beautiful
Mountains, snow, and green

And it's orderly...
The trains do run on time, mostly
to quote a cliche :-)

But in any case
I won't give up my day job
Haikus are too hard.

Incidentally
haiku is too expensive
time equals money.

Re: Got a haiku on your Swiss experience? Post it here!

Ascension Thursday
Heralded my arrival
Eight long years ago

(The Eighth of the Eighth
Of the Eighth is my birthday
I shall celebrate)

(They say that numbers
Are the language of nature
I prefer bird song)

It took me six months
Before the culture shock hit
'Twas just a flesh wound

I found a cool job
Paid to advertise Mars bars
The nights were superb

The Twin Towers Fell
The Industry followed suit
Hard times, recession

Went to language school
Fell in lust with my teacher
Like everybody

Relationship dead
Moved out on mid-Summers eve
Who was I kidding?

Found solace in friends
Took a trip to Majorca
Slept with a woman

My liberty found
Quietly celebrated
She was from Holland

Zurich weather sucks
Endless fog during winter
I want to wear shorts

(I could go on but for the love of God it's all a bit too EMO)

Has no one explained?
Haiku has five, then seven
then five syllables.

Udders a-plenty!
Cantonal finals
oversponsored — not enough
exclusivity?

Two cows on pasture:
"Mad cow news doesn't scare you?"
"Why? *I'm* an ermine!"

Why the vache-qui-rit?
Most cows ruminate on grass
some may have smoked it
