"Business Only" Sales?

I'm trying to order some specialty tools online, and am getting frustrated because alot of these companies are only B2B sales. For example, Wurth:

Quote:
Hiermit bestätige ich, dass die oben genannte Firma als Gewerbebetrieb registriert ist
I tried to register on another website as a private person, and got the reply:

Quote:

What's the deal? Why don't they want to sell things to people?

They want to protect their margins, as well as those of the retailers that sell their stuff.

The problem is that some of the tools I'm looking for seem to be only available via B2B websites

probably not worth for them to sell to privates for the few sales they would make, just a thought

Maybe you can find a company that rents those tools instead of purchasing them?

Whatever the reason, keeping people in the dark about what tools you're looking for, and "force" them to guess will definitely help solve the riddle, answer your question. [/sarcasm]

Re: "Business Only" Sales?

I'm looking for this to punch a hole for a power connector in a metal rack:
Lochstanze, manuell, rechteckig, 30,2 x 22,7mm

http://ch.rs-online.com/web/p/lochst...ionen/0618500/

RS and Farnell both have it, but they are only B2B. Can't find it sold retail anywhere in CH (or really anyplace outside of B2B shops). I checked Conrad, OBI, etc.. it's not sold in any of the "normal" tool stores. I guess only "B2B" people are allowed to punch holes in metal?

Re: "Business Only" Sales?

On the RS site, I tried to order as a guest.
Entered false details, and got as far as payment, but I wasn't going to use actual details, so couldn't progress further.

Does it cancel the order at stage 3 (Überprüfung)?

Found by Google image search for Lochstanze. Note that Google itself suggests Lochstanze Blech as a more specific term.

Have you considered talking to a professional - "Spengler" is what you are looking for. Or you might talk to some sales representative at Bauhaus, Obi or whatever you have locally.

I am probably not telling you anything new, but to really punch through metal, you will need to have quite a bit of a punch (punch, err, pun provoked). You have that equipment, right? Why not take your thing straight to a Spenglerei?

Re: "Business Only" Sales?

I did place an order with RS, but then they sent an e-mail asking for my business credentials, otherwise they wouldn't process the order :/

I guess I could order thru that link, but that's in Germany, and 2-3x the price of RS. I'd prefer to own the tool myself rather than to rent it or have someone else cut it, since I may need it again in the future. You don't need any other tools to use it besides a drill and a wrench, quite simple to use:

...so back to my original question, why don't they sell this tool retail in CH anywhere?? If I was B2B I could have it for 80CHF in 24hr from RS....

Like many things here, there exists the monopoly/cartel and it stops people buying directly and pushing the small man out of business. They like to screw us for as much as they can.

Personally, I would follow Daffy's idea and go to a Spengler. I have a set of round hole punches, but not bigger than 4 mm if I remember, so not much use to you.

Re: "Business Only" Sales?

Are you looking for a knockout hole punch set? (your posted link didn't work for me)

I'm in the handelsregister, and could maybe order it for you, if you really need it so badly. let me know...

How thick is the material you need to cut? Stainless, mild steel, aluminum?

You might get by with a step bit and some cutting oil...

here for CHF 30 and they'll sell to you

Re: "Business Only" Sales?

That tool, or a similar one, is available here on UK ebay, but more expensive (about £100 inc P&P).

By the way, the "real" dimensions would be 1 3/16" x 7/8" - might help with searching.

This shop next to my employer:
http://www.weber-widmer.ch

could probably order it for you.

But it's more a walk-in shop.

Re: "Business Only" Sales?

Another option to cut holes in sheet metal is to use a 'nibbler'. You drill a hole and then use the 'nibbler' cut out the required shape, in this case a rectangle.

Rather than trying on line, why not got to a shop that targets trades men rather than the general public. That is usually where I find specialist tools and material.

You could try http://www.hasler.ch who do sell to the public: they have a small order surcharge though if you don't order very much.
