Replacing a battery in a Tissot T-Touch [BE/FR]

I need to replace my T-Touch battery, but the Christ shop in the Wankdorf centre in Bern said they would have to send it away to Tissot as it was quite a specialised job, and that it would take 5-6 weeks .
Anyone know a specialist watch shop in Bern or Fribourg who will can replace it on-site?

Re: Replacing a battery in a Tissot T-Touch [BE/FR]

Did you try asking from other watch shops in the area? 6 weeks is unbelievable for a battery change.

Christ will send it off if they do not have the watch making facilities in the branch where you have gone to.

Use the link below for dealers in Bern maybe they will help you to sort it out. Good luck

http://www.tissot.ch/stores/search/Bern,CH

You can search for FR also with the link above.

Re: Replacing a battery in a Tissot T-Touch [BE/FR]

There is a Mr Minit inside Loeb Bern, they state that they change batteries.

A problem is that to be sure of good waterproofing, the rubberseal must be replaced, but so far in 10 years I have been lucky...

Standort: Parterre, Eingang Schauplatzgasse

(There used to be a jeweller inside Loeb that changed batteries while you waited, but he isn't mentioned now)

I think that's where my wife took my watch (but not for a while) ...... not for battery change (doesn't have one), but a new glass ..... although I seemed to recall she may have also used a 'little old man' in some small specialist place, but I think she changed to Loeb, because he retired.

Re: Replacing a battery in a Tissot T-Touch [BE/FR]

Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up taking it to Grauwiller on the Av. de la Gare in Fribourg; I can pick it up Saturday morning (it would have been ready today, but I can't get back in time).

Re: Replacing a battery in a Tissot T-Touch [BE/FR]

I just get mine changed at Christ, if you send it off then it takes ages as you point out but it is then guaranteed to 10bar waterproof. Christ will probably just not have a pressure chamber that can do 10bar I guess.

I have dived mine to 55-60m and its held up on a non tissot change.

I did mine myself for 2 CHF. It's got wet since then a few times.

Re: Replacing a battery in a Tissot T-Touch [BE/FR]

The key point is that the watch should be pressure-tested again after battery replacement, and not all shops are equipped. At least the first one didn't just do it without testing. If you managed to get a local Mr. Minit or similar to do it they most certainly wouldn't test it, and I wouldn't trust it to be waterproof afterwards.

I've had mine changed by a properly-equipped dealer in Basel

On a T-Touch? How did you get the back off?

I've certainly changed batteries on other watches, including Tissots, myself, and used when snorkelling, but my current one (actually a "T-Navigator", but still with the T-Touch screen functionality) doesn't appear like I could get the back off without much clumsy levering and likely damage, so I wouldn't attempt it myself.

Scalpel blade and small screw drivers. I can't recall it being a struggle.

I'm sure Tissot themselves do a fine job but if you have ever seen the way Frau Sausage-Fingers manhandles a watch at a third-party place place, with a big pair of pliers and a fair bit of brute force, you figure that you could probably do it yourself just as well.

I would suggest either ask Tissot themselves or go to a more specialised shop. IIRC there is one in Basel that does this for all sorts of watches.

I strongly suspect you not changed a Tissot T-Touch battery, to change a normal watch battery is usually not too difficult, the back of a T-Touch has a similar back to a Rolex, albeit with less indentations, 6 to be precise.

A "scalpel blade" would be useless as would a screwdriver, you need a specialist tool to unscrew the back and certainly to replace it and have a water resistant watch.

Note i say water resistant as opposed to water proof after changing the battery yourself.

This is why i said you were talking crap !

Yes, I know it has six indentations. I didn't use any specialised watch tools as I don't have any.
But as I said, it wasn't difficult.
People have also said it needs a specialised battery. It doesn't. I used a CR1632.

Should I have taken little photos or videos of me doing it and put them on some sort of social media to prove I did it?
I appreciate that you probably couldn't do it but it really wasn't a big deal - why are you making it one?

Is this like your similar argument to grass maintenance and fertilizer in that I can't know anything about it as I'm not a salesman (like you) shifting a few tonnes of the stuff or whatever it was you felt you had to tell me when you groaned me.

Well that's different from mine then, which doesn't have any indentations, which is why I raised the question.

My other Tissot also has six indentations, as do many other watches, and although it can be fiddly a pair of snipe-nosed or circlip pliers usually does the job.

I probably can't do most things. However the tasks that you think I am not capable of doing, and that you have specifically mentioned - mowing the grass, changing a watch battery etc are things that any fool could do so I don't understand why you are calling me out on them?

It's really no big deal and you're making yourself look a bit silly.
