"Englischer" excuse me! Aren't you from somewhere West of Ireland
Not many differentiate between the variety of English accents. Any Kiwis, Aussies, Yanks, Canadians, Scotts in the village - We're all 'Engländer' here*.

*Once, though, I was asked if, based on my accent, I was Dutch. One of the proudest days of my auf Deutsch life.

The chocolate used in the US plant is made in CH.

It's happened to me here, too: "You're from northern England? You mean like Scotland?"

Yes, I was astonished about our sky tonight too. Unfortunately that told me that the weather will be bad tomorrow.

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

And back to the OP.

Walked into a wine barrel making factory 3 villages away from home. Bloke didn't know me from....Adam.

Asked him if I could buy a smaller keg for the creation of home port. He took me into a storage area with many choices, and left me there alone, no cameras or supervision, to browse for 20 minutes until I found the barrel I liked.

I had to search him out to confirm my choice, he carried it to my car, asked me to scribble my name and address on a slip of paper, and then advised he'd post out a bill. No ID from me, nothing for me to sign, no payment on the spot, not even a photo of my car licence plate.

2 weeks later, bill arrives in the mail (which I will of course pay immediately).

Such a level of trust. TIS

TIS when a newspaper publishes an errata corrige for a previous article on real estate business in Switzerland.

The mistake was... on a story of an episode for The Smurfs

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

Back in 2014-2015 before I left CH I had a period of unemployment. I needed a letter confirming this from the RAV/ORP.

Emailed my old ORP adviser asking if this is possible. Have a PDF letter in my email 20 minutes later.

Love a bit of efficiency!

Follow on from this I also required a criminal record check for my time in CH. I posted the form out and it was processed and certificate issued within a few hours of it being received by the authorities.

I am in the process of requesting documents from several countries, and have found that most services can be classified as:

1. Expensive and efficient
2. Expensive and inefficient
3. Inexpensive and inefficient

Switzerland falls into category 1. The US falls into category 2. UK falls into category 3. There is no mythical category 4 of 'inexpensive and efficient.'

Being able to pay for an expensive antique, with a promise and a handshake...TIS

It reminds me so much of where I came from, from about 30 years ago.
