Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

Strict woman selling tickets for the cable car tells you that you're permitted to go up, but then you must walk down (2 hour walk) because there are no more return tickets. At the end of the day there is an empty car, and you ride it down for free coz she forgets to check TIS

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

Just had a ceramic floor tile replaced. 70 CHF. You can't even tell that it is a different tile. I also was able to provide a spare.

I got the name of whom to use (and the spare) from my landlord. Having good connections and communicating personally in Switzerland pays.

Went to an ATM to withdraw CHF 20 to buy a sandwich and a Coke (TIS!). Transaction refused: "Minimum withdrawal CHF 50". TIS.

Did you check if it's possible here at all to get a sandwich and a Coke for Fr. 20.00?

No it's not. A piece of household-paper and some NitroverdŁnner ( cellulose thinner) and whoosh, it's gone.

Top advice!

I tough I remind my page followers and made a video just now

(How to remove vignette)

Clean as per above advice with Nail varnish remover or acetone.

Heat gun or hairdryer can be use to warm the vignette.

EWZ (electricity company of the City of Zurich) takes down a street clock for inspection and repairs and puts up a small sign reading "Uhr in Revision" ("clock being serviced) with an email address to contact, presumably to stop people reporting a stolen clock to the police. TIS

I dropped my parking ticket next to my car, and found it stuck under my windshield wiper. Some kind soul saved me some chuffs today.

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

I get one order from the UK in two packages, because the seller f-ed up.

The seller double f-ed up when they put full value of order on one package, and then the value of contents on the second package, so the customs were more than happy to (effectively) charge me double tax (+flat fees) on the contents of the second package.

Talked to post, sent me over to Verzollung department. Talked to them, and told me:
  • I'm right, I paid too much tax
  • however it's the seller's fault, so they get to keep the flat fees for the 2nd package
  • they would send me over the Federal Customs Authority for a refund on my excess tax charge
  • there is a 30CHF fee for processing refunds (!) which is greater than my refund, so no point, so they're not going to do anything
  • they regret to inform me of all of the above

A fee to process a refund request. If that is not CH, I don't know what is...

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

I went to the ATM today and could not get any cash. Not that my account was overdrawn, but the machine was out of cash. All it let me do was check my balances.

Is this Switzerland? Where people walk around with stacks of 1K purple bills in their pockets but I can't get a C-note from the ATM?

Which is why the ATMs are empty.
