Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

A tip - I have a non stick liner in the bottom of my oven, catches all the drips and you just take it out and wipe it with hot soapy water. I bought it because my apartment was a new build when I moved in back in 2018. It's a steam oven and alerts you when it needs to be cleaned.

At the apartment I vacated the property company used to charge 50 francs for cleaning the oven as a "small repair". It was waived for us because after 2 years we were leaving the place in pristine condition - when the agent came to inspect he made a joke about us taking the lease on then going to live in a hotel. Seriously, he said they never got properties back in such good condition when they were located in Kleinbasel.

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

When I was walking the dogs this morning, my neighbour who is an enthusiastic pedal bike racer tore past me at speed with his feet whirling around like dervishes. A retired old lady on an e-bike was comfortably following him just a couple of meters behind with no sign of effort.

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

So 3 x V-Zug freezer replacement drawer including delivery will run me in the region of CHF220 before mwst - WTAF?

I've worked manufacturing in the past& I put the time & materials to manufacture & delivery to store manufacture all 3 units at about CHF50 & that's being very generous imo.

This...is also Switzerland

No public trial for the police chief who stole 15k cash

https://www.20min.ch/fr/story/pas-de...t-296878911539

6 months suspended sentence and 1200 CHF fine.

Wonder if a foreigner would have the same treatment like him?

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

Was planning to travel once from Chiasso to Zurich with the last train of the day (3 hour journey), train does not arrive due to an infrastructure breakdown, so I am left in an empty station without any scheduled option to get to Zurich. 5 min after, my SBB app gives me indications on what to do, I take one train, then another, then another and so on. Things change constantly: some trains delay to wait for us, on one train the driver announces that we will be going beyond the end station in order to let us catch another train, etc.. The app stays always updated on what to do. At the end, I take different 5 trains to get to Zurich: arriving 30 min later w.r.t. the original schedule. TIS

Yes, and he was fired and must repay the money, as to be expected.

I imagine it will be difficult to find a new job.

Chomage office can sanction, or suspend unemployment benefit when the reason for being fired is related to conduct.

On a Canton road, stuck behind 20 cars, stuck behind a semi truck, driving under 20 km/h cause due to oncoming traffic the semi can't pass a bicyclist.

So how would it be elsewhere? An other dead bicyclist?

No sane bicyclist would even consider it outside of Switzerland.

Can't they build parking lots here so that the grocery carriage won't roll away before one can get the car loaded?

Our local grocery stores closed at 4 pm yesterday (Thursday, Dec. 24) and won't open again until Monday. I really need to start investing in UHT milk again.

They do in Ticino, the ones with concrete blocks surrounding grassy bits, just put one of the wheels in the grassy bit!

For someone who seems to constantly run out of milk, that may be advisable. Or maybe have less eggnog

I have a second refrigerator and a freezer in my basement storage. Because in my kitchen I have one of those puritan, hidden fridges that can fit a bottle of milk and two yogurts. One day I swear I will tear that budget kitchen down and put a double door giant ''fuk you fridge''.

Migros Heidi milk tastes a lot better and seems to last for ever. The milk I bought two weeks ago today has a best before date of 6.1.21.
I don't know how they do it though.

Re: TIS - This Is Switzerland

Folks who receive salary in Switzerland shall be banned from complaining that Switzerland is expensive.
The money you are paid here are equivalent with the services you are billed for.

Many years ago, before moving here I was at the border asking for 1 day vignette. The lady said that I have only one option. Vignette for 1 year...Me: but I will be here for couple of hours.. she said:

if you don’t like it - go back!
