Rental apartment standards

Hello,
Our relocation to Zurich is close and we are breaking our head. Which equipment to take with us?
Is there some kind of a "standard" when renting (a not furnished) apartment? Should I expect a refrigerator, oven , washing machine, etc? Or these apartments are simply empty?

Thanks,
Ariel

Re: Rental apartment standards

you will have a kitchen with fitted appliances such as cooker, oven, dishwasher.

shared washing machine is likely in the cellar.

Depending on where you are moving from it might also surprise you that most lights are not installed, at least it was for me. Usually the bathrooms, and the kitchen if they have the long overhead lights (I am blanking on the right name) are usually already faunctional when you move in.

Re: Rental apartment standards

I would expect the light NOT to be installed. Everyone takes those with them. I never understood that?

Expect to see wires coming out on the ceiling or in some cases the switch turns on a socket in the corner where you put a standing lamp.

Re: Rental apartment standards

At a minimum, expect a fridge and stove, unless specified. Anything else may or may not be provided. Definitely don't count on a dishwasher, as it is a toss up with those - even in some pricier apartments.

Are you planning on waiting to look for a place until you arrive here or will your company set you up with a place. If you know in advance where you will be living at - apartment wise - you can always call the landlord, agency or whoever is your contact person for the rented place and ask them what appliances are already installed. As people have already mentioned, you can expect at least a refrigerator and a stove. In most instances you will have to provide your own light fixtures. Good luck with the move.
