Re: I smiled because...

When I was a teenager I lost both my parents - my mother was french and for reasons not known to me was not in contact with her family. I have memories of being in France when a small child and have several photos of me around 1965 with my 3 cousins.

Now over 50 years later, thanks to the internet - I have found them!!!!!

One of them, who is the same age as me, has been sharing photos and memories and told me things about the family that, because I was young, never knew.

A reunion is on the cards in the near future........I am so happy to have found them...

Re: I smiled because...

2018 is a greatful year for me, I think much perseverance and trustful are ideal factors for it, even if there are badly moments which sometimes I think it was hardly for me to overcome.

Roughly 7 years!!! It´s a long period that I´ve spent in a closed room to study. Results? many achievement certificates: a graduation for Education area, a post-graduation for Education area, a DALF C2 for French language, and now a certificate from Harvard University for Education area, it´s an online course, however this American institution demanded me much expertise and discipline to finish this course with my theory in learning process for Education. I just want to thank to all high experts from this institution to make me realize it.

It´s crazy to declare that I isolated myself for this purpose, after I was in a badly situation that I was afraid of aging process without an achievement for personal, professional and educational life.

I don´t want to be an accomplishment example for many women, victims of domestic mistreatments during a bad marriage. I just want to say that it´s worth to turn the page and go ahead., because it means victory and happiness on what you really want.

Re: I smiled because...

i smiled - and laughed - when the my neighbor's Jack Russell saw me in the garage this week and was so excited he ran and slid the last bit to me on the cement floor. It was cute, funny and we both smiled (me and the dog)!

I got compliments at work.

Phonetics I focused on last week.

The amazing sunshine.

Nearby ski-lifts, that are up and going.

Re: I smiled because...

I had a hard time hiding my grin at the gym this morning, when I had to overhear a loud and awkwardly formal convo on Sie-terms:" Wow, you put a lot of weight on?" "What? No?! I lost a lot of weight!". It was refreshingly weird.

It just snowed yesterday night and I don't need to leave my apartment.

Don't get me wrong, I love snow... Only when I'm indoors.

Re: I smiled because...

I learnt today that while there is a noble family Lichtenstein - in Germany though - our noble and closely allied neighbour is called Liechtenstein.

Who would have thought I'd learn that from British expats

Re: I smiled because...

One day last week I had a really tough day and on my way home found myself sat (apparently looking miserable) across from an english speaking mother and her young daughter. All of a sudden the girl threw herself on to the seat next to me and offered me a smartie. She told me that she thought i needed one as smarties always make her happy when she's sad. I smiled all the way home

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled (well had to stifle a belly-laugh, actually) because I saw two delivery blokes playing with one of those pallet lifters. One was riding on it and the other one, who was pushing it, turned to me as I walked past saying "What, have you never seen a gladiator in Zurich?"
