Re: I smiled because...

Our Swiss decorator thanked me and said I'm a good person for making him coffees and cold drinks whilst he's been working on the exterior of the house in this weather. Aww bless.

Isn't it normal to look after work people this way? Feel like I've spent the last 4 mths making brews for plasterers, decorators, joiners, tilers, gardeners, etc...The UK joiner used to come back from lunch with a big box of cakes for me and the other people working on the house.

It's not, apparently. I do it too.
Cost me a mug last time. No big deal but the guy was devastated, LOL.

Re: I smiled because...

Our 40 foot container is loaded with furniture and household belongings and finally on the way from Charlotte/NC to Locarno/Ticino.
Should take about 5-6 weeks.

Re: I smiled because...

Today I got ......

....... crumpets!

And yes, it was an EF-person who made this possible for me.

Thanks to the guy who baked some for me last year and thanks to the guy who made it possible for me to savour the original thing all the way from England now ...... and the coming days as I got a lot!

I got a memory like an elephant, I shall never forget this

..... I got this really dark - I mean dark - bread in Germany today.

I'll never understand why we can't buy this here. There was a place in Metalli Zug that used to sell it but I heard, they stopped it too.

Re: I smiled because...

After 5 days "home alone" due to my injury, which made me feel - unneccessary but I couldn't help it - vulnurable, it was time to head out again (hunger etc. ).

I drop by my coffee roasters' shop, go on to the Turkish shop, where I get nothing but smiles, a chat here, one there, the African lady who walks up to the Turkish owner of the shop with a box full of plantanes, asking in Swiss-German "okay, Papa, how much for these?" because prices are negotionable (if you actually talk to people instead of giving them "you're a crook and I know it"-look ).

Walking back to my car I almost slip and find out the rubber bit of my heel is gone. On my favorite shoes, darn. At 12.05h I show up at this tiny little cobbler-key-and what-else-your-heart-might-desire-shop. The guy is just about to mount his bicycle, has stuffed all the things which are usually outside in his little shop. But gets off the bike, we wriggle our way through all the gear to the counter and he fixes my heels. (Hope the wife will forgive me having to wait with the lunch).

Driving on, the car before me has to stop as some cars have to wait for pedestrians to cross and blocks an other car who could have taken the chance to cross. Nothing new, is it. But the guy who's blocked is so busy being angry at the culprit that he does not notice that I stopped so far back (due to seeing him .... due to having been a bike-rider once? LOL) and he can easily pull in. I actually have to give him a court hunk to make him see it and do exactly that. I hope, he at least laughed about himself afterwards.

This was the moment I realized the difference between my Switzerland and the Switzerland other people seem to live in.
I'm having a great time in the one I live in. And although that is how it is for me - I can't stop smiling on days like today, because I don't take it for granted.
Although, life is actually always like this for me, no matter which part of the world. So maybe, just maybe, it's the attitude?

Maybe there should be a second thread: "I smiled and because I did ...... "

Our three-year-old twins helped themselves to some chocolate they found hidden on a high shelf.

It was Tabasco flavoured.

Selber Schuld!
