Re: I smiled because...

My m. di bufala was giant. I still managed to finish the entire globe. I blame the depletion over grading million of papers, Fr Bac, Cambridge and reg stuff on top. Yay. Off to the dissertation and my study group bootcamp.

Ok, there seems to be quite a few threads about various disadvantages about so I'm going to be sickeningly cute and cuddly and suggest a thread where you can all tell us about the last thing that made you smile and maybe make others smile too. It's not all bad and life is absolutely too short. Go out, play in the sunshine, feed some ducks, smell the flowers and so on. Then, tell us about what made you smile.

And the last thing that made me smile is stumbling upon my reputation and seeing the lovely comments people took the trouble to make. Thank you!
Don't remember the last time I smiled oof, the school won't let that happen.

Re: I smiled because...

Because I slid on a large hidden slate of ice that propelled me in the air. I flew cca 8 meters. And hit the snow head first, in an incredible speed.

I didn't die.

The weather is turning the slopes into death traps.

Talking about birds: While dusting my alarm-clock yesterday I must have set it.

I woke up - with great surprise - to birds happily chirping away.
It was absolutely great!
Until I was fully awake and realized: It's one of the alarm tones of the clock.

Ah well, it was cheery while it lasted.

Open the window, you'll hear the birds...spring coming early this year.

I smiled because students actually use and wear the stuff we create.

They must all be in the French part. There is not one bird to see or hear here - it is actually eery, I don't remember it being like this around here EVER.
Do I need to worry? And if yes, about what exactly?

Ask the nearest ornitologist. Mine is at her classroom now, can't help.

But worry not:

As you got one at hand: Ask her some time what can keep birds so efficiently away from a place they usually live happily and in abundance. Thanks.

Apparently the shortage is everywhere, for a number of reasons. One is a virus black birds are fighting. Another is a mild winter that did not starve the birds enough for them to have to look for food closer to humans.

Thanks a lot!
Worried about "my" blackbird couple now who I believe was the same breeding in "my" tree two seasons in a row and are nowhere around since a long time.

Let's hope it's the second reason then.

Can't be the cats, this is cat's paradise and the birds were never impressed by them. From when I still had a cat I remember there are so many mice around here that the cats all take that - lazy - path when hunting.
A mouse a day in her peak days.
