Odile, he is 4 and has his own Insta account?
Agreed - but a smile like that can't be faked - he seems to truly enjoy it. But, yes, I take your point.

He is really amazing and made me smile, on top of that for me as a musician he nailed the pitch and the rhythm so well. But I cringe when little kids have FB or Insta accounts.

Ahh, THANKS MATE!

That was great! (I was late but thanks to you I didn't miss it)

Made me go on Afropfingsten site to find out - no surprise - that's not happening this year. And then finding out that Johnny Clegg died in summer last year, how the heck did this pass by me? I saw him at Afropfingsten in 2007 and remember an African mate (not South African) giving me a surprised look, saying "Il est bon". LOL, before he obviously pitifully thought 'yeah, yeah, curley thinks a white guy at Afropfingsten is a good idea. Everybody has their flaws'. Generously forgiving me mine.

Man, I feel all gushy and nostalgic - I didn't think I could still get into that state Longing to reach out and hug a few old friends - in corona times of all times when one can't even get a substitute hug from current friends.

I am smiling now because a colleague whom I hadn't seen for a while, just walked over to me and gave me a big hug, only because we'd not seen each other for a while.

Barbra.
Ooh... I accidentally opened page 1 of this thread, and was a little startled, until I realised the above post was from May 2008.

Anyway, the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri K Museveni, has made an exercise video, including doing 30 (!) push-ups, at the age of 75!

Totally agree. Everyone should have a nice gym size presidential office to jog in.

Re: I smiled because...

I was seeing some pics hang on my living room's wall, they were about World Cup 2002, in the moment Brazil was world champion, and when I've lived in GE. I've been with friends and family in Jardin Anglais for celebrating the championship.

Sunddely a documentary is diffused on TV about this final game in 2002 between Brazil x Germany.
I smiled in due to this coincidence!!!

Re: I smiled because...

... because the little lemon tree I bought half dead for a few Euros last year, is absolutely covered in fragrant flowers.

And outside, the small cheery tree given to me by a wonderful EF Lady who returned to the UK after a lifetime here - also was covered of 1000s of tiny pink flowers- same as the purple Pasque flowers that came in another pot and now planted in a border <3

Because we just saw "If you are having fun, you aren't learning." which is the direct opposite of the truth.

Haha, sounds grounded in Military style thinking... There is however, in Phycology, a part truth of this, that within strong emotions, your focus may very well be less, hence when you're crying with laughter for example, it's rare to restrain something you want to say, even if you should, but on the other hand, strong emotional states make things more memorable as opposed to the neutrality that your quote is suggesting... I'll take strong emotions any day! And hello fellow Musician I believe

Yeah, memorable is easier to recall, retreat from memory. There are many theories on affection tightly linked to efficient cognition. And the oposing ones where emotions cloud or bias rational decision making. And then French on neurocognition where, sit down, deliberate attention is less quality than unconscious absorption.

I memorise hundreds of pages of symphonies on a treadmill I still think it is a principle of frequency and repetition rather than me liking certain sport activity when simultaneously learning or liking that particular symphony more.

Hullo back!

That's just the fourth stage of learning: moving from conscious to unconscious competence.

I was trying to learn Norwegian long ago and done bursts of intense running and then stopped and trained Language skills - Haven't tried it with my Instruments yet, but I can still remember a lot of that Norwegian and remember at the time being shocked how fast I was learning it (I haven't used it in years). Something interesting happens with Exercise and Learning being closely mixed it seems

It is a specific part of brain that you engage for motion which might push sounds to be coded in as musical sounds/noise as opposed to analytically and logically justified stuff. In brief, you learn noise as efficiently as a kid would, instead of blocking yourself by reasoning. Reasoning doesn't help since we often learn a language theoretically, by imagining situations, instead of being in a real one.

I often memorized bass lines by hand positions, too, not just sound. Piano is even easier, because it is so nicely linear.

But exercise oxygenates, too
