I spent a fab afternoon getting my hair done, when my hairdresser saw my (shot to hell) white roots he went "WOW" I can now face turning 59 tomorrow with a big smile on my face

Been sending pics of the before and after transformation to family and friends in Scotland who can't get their hair done until July
I guess it's still one day early (as it's not quite midnight yet), but...

Happy Birthday!

Re: I smiled because...

OH had to go to the office for half a day, before he went he gave me 2 huge bunches of peonies, 1 white 1 pink so I enjoyed arranging them into 2 vases. When he came back in the afternoon he brought Linzertorte from a patisserie near his office. Cards arrived from Scotland and via What's App and I've spent the afternoon reading and cheerfully pottering away in my kitchen. A nice birthday, I appreciate the simple things in these strange times we've all been living through

He's 60 next Tuesday, we're postponing it until better days are here again.

Happy birthday Cherub, and to your OH next week.

I will match him a week later and my OH was 60 a couple of weeks ago. We did manage to “celebrate” his by inviting our neighbours into our garden for socially distanced aperitifs. Our 85 year old neighbour gave him 2 bottles of champagne, lovely gesture. Strange times indeed.

Re: I smiled because...

It truly is. My eldest brother is 75 on the 25th and the younger of the 2 boys in our family 70 next month. Hopefully we'll all be able to get together at some point in the future to celebrate these milestones. It's particularly hard for my eldest brother as he was widowed 3 years ago and now lives on his own with his dog.

Re: I smiled because...

...... I put all of the winter shoes and boots in the basement today and put the summer shoes and sandals in the cupboards. Followed that up by preparing chicken meatballs and a pasta sauce for the fridge, plus making a big tub of Viennese potato salad and stewing some apples that had gone wrinkly in the fruit bowl. All in all another good day

I washed and put away my thick winter-jacket for the THIRD time this spring .... I'm not counting on it being the final last time anymore

Re: I smiled because...

I'm clever enough to keep a waterproof for each of us in the apartment. I know the weather on the east coast of Scotland is generally awful, but when it rains heavily in Basel it's like nothing I've ever seen before, apocalyptic! Last June we were at a BBQ and the heavens opened as we were walking the 7 mins back up from the Rhine. To say we looked like drowned rats is an understatement, we had to strip off just inside our apartment front door and chuck everything in the washing machine to be done the next morning - even our knickers were wringing

Much easier to work when the pneumatic drills outside calmed down, finally.

Re: I smiled because...

My neighbour's boyfriend cleaned my flagstoned seating area within 20 minutes, using a Kränzle UFO and the space looks like it's just been newly done with brand new flagstones! It didn't nearly look like this when I moved in or when it's been done with a Kärcher about 5 years ago. So I did not expect much at all and definitely not this.

If I saw this in an advert, I'd go "pheeew, suuure ".

At the moment I have to go admire it every 15 minutes.

I don't really care if this sounds like an advert, it would be well deserved. And it was with water only, btw.
The smile is for the neighbour's boyfriend and the result though.

Re: I smiled because...

I didn't just smile...I wore the widest grin possible on my face yesterday!!

Not only could I enjoy a long and grand motorbike tour with my Pirate. (Gürbetal-Simmental-Saanenland-Pays d'en Haut-Jaunpass-Simmental-Stockental)
As if this wasn't enough already to make me smile, no we also went to see my old haunts in a village in the Bernese Oberland where I worked at the local hospital over 3o years ago.
A marvellous trip down memory lane with lots of nice memories popping up whereever I looked.

Also, making my smile everyday are the birds coming for a quick dip to our various bird baths, garden starting to bloom and whereever I look I see something that lifts my heart and makes me smile...regardless if it is a bloom opening or various known and unknown critters to observe crawling about
