I accidentally deleted an email with a number of links in it for a meditation course I'm taking and I thought I'd lost it forever - then I found it again.

Happy days :D

Re: I smiled because...

So, I have noisy neighbours.

I dont mind, since their activities involve:

- moving furniture
- playing piano in a matter that actually makes me pause the game and enjoy it

So today they were on the balcony and I spoke to them and told that I like the music. Also - I dont mind the noise and if I do - I will just come over.

The lady that plays the piano was really happy to hear a compliment. She said she was playing Chopin and I was like 'Miss, I'm Polish. I know Chopin's music when I hear it and I liked it'. But either play it louder or quieter because I was missing some tones due to acustics.

She seemed happy about the compliment and we had a good laugh.

I came here to post the thing that made me smile, then I read back through it a bit, and now TWO things have made me smile today :)

This morning's smile came from an interaction whilst I was walking the dog... a neighbour stopped to say hi, and asked me a question, which I was able to answer. It's thrilled me because the whole interaction was in German, which I couldn't speak a word of just one month ago.

Edit in case it sounds like I'm some sort of language prodigy - it was a very simple question and I screwed up the pronunciation of my answer. But still - it was communication! :D

On a wall at St Johann-Ring Basel, there's some graffiti:

Jede Regierung Lügt! Subversion & Ananarchie!

Ananarchie. Pineapple cocktails instead of Molotov?

I'm smiling today because of the wonderful folks at TCS.

Was on a tight schedule today, lots of errands to run and appointments to keep. As I got in my car ready to dash from one appointment to the next, suddenly the car wouldn't start. After a brief moment of panic I called TCS, who said they would be there within 40 minutes.

One minute later, before I could even look up the number of my next appointment to warn them I would be late, the nice mechanic from TCS called to say he was less than five minutes out. He replaced my dead battery lickety split, and off I drove.

Time from panicked call to problem solved: Less than 15 minutes. Made my appointment on time.

I am so grateful for TCS. They have saved my bacon several times over the years, membership is the best investment this automobile-ignoramus has ever made.

What kind of membership with TCS does one need? Soon my car will be old enough to not warrant voll kasko, and TCS is what I have in mind to bridge any gaps in coverage. I dare not think of bringing down the cost too much...TIS :D

I just have their standard membership, bought because I want the security of 24/7 breakdown assistance. I can't remember exactly what it costs, maybe 140 for the family membership (two drivers, two cars)? But whatever it is, well worth it.

I think we save that much just using the parking discount at the airport.

I, too, have an old car, so perhaps I should look into their auto insurance products a bit more closely. Your post prompted me to take a peek at the site, and I see they have some interesting new products not auto related. Their 'Pannehilfe für Ihre Zuhause' looks interesting...

A little girl complemented me on my English. :) The look on her face when I explained that's because I'm English was a delight.

Cute. Along similar lines, but more groan-worthy than funny, my English husband was once chatting with a Texan tourist on the train (the person provided this piece of information) and when he mentioned that he'd lived in the US for four years her response was "So that explains why you speak English so well!".

100% true story. :msnshock:

Following the chain, here ... but about my wife:

My wife was speaking to an American woman in her (wife's) professional capacity, the conversation turned around to place of origin and my wife said that she was from Australia. The immediate response?
"But you're so well-educated!"

As was I, when speaking to a French doctor called to attend to a sick family member when we were on holiday, who assumed I couldn't possibly be English (speaking reasonable French), I must be Australian.

Thats nice. I guess they will bill you for the battery, right? Im asking because once i called TCS when my battery died, and the guy who came said that he would loan me a battery so i can drive to my mechanic but then he would take the battery back. And that was around 11 at night mind you…

Membership gets you the service, you pay for parts.

After he got my car started by doing something magical with a thingamajig (did I mention I am an automobile ignoramus?), he said that the old battery would long enough to get to a garage, but I should change it for a new one as soon as possible. Or, he could just install a new battery for me now.

I chose the latter option as it was most convenient. Had too many errands to run and places to be to try to pencil something else onto my 'to do' list.

I suppose if I shopped around and read up about things I have no wish to learn I might maybe save a Chuff or two on the battery. But I firmly believe that in life one should choose one's battles - and when it comes to cars, I tend to choose convenience. I trust TCS, they have always done right by me.

Also, how much is your time worth? Far better to get it done right now for an extra 50 bucks or so than spend a few hours hunting about for a cheaper one, then going to the garage, and getting it installed, and then paying for the installation as well.

The Sternsinger are coming again this year after a hiatus last year. It's so cold they must wear their ski gear underneath their Magi costumes!

Because the Bell Ringers at our local Church have been 'at it' for the past hour, peel after peel- and it is very Christmassy.

In England, of course.
