I smiled because of Argus' post!

She looks so handsome! You must be so proud of her!

Thank you, Mr Breakfast. We feel like the parents of a child gone right, yes.

Thanks, Ms L-P. She taught us so much about love, patience, consistency and being open-hearted and flexible (mentally and physically, one may say).

I'm an idiot*. Our foster pup has passed her guide dog exams with flying colours. She was decisive and thought for herself when given commands that could've put the blind person in danger. Anyone who thinks dogs don't think can think again. In other words, she exercised good guiding canine judgment.

*(An idiot 'coz this means the Lab goes off to work for six to eight years before she can come back to us for her retirement. But she gets a holiday with us before her trainer looks for a compatible blind person for her. So I cannot help smiling.)
How many have you fostered now? It must be hard, but rewarding to see them move on.

It's our first one, so it's an extra special occasion. (I come from a country in which Seeing-Eye Dogs are not allowed on public transport, so there´s hardly any there except for service dogs kept mostly at home and some therapy dogs.)

Next month we'll get to attend her graduation parade in which she'll lead her trainer around Basel doing everything she knows how to do. At the same time, someone else will explain as we follow 20m behind her. We are comforted by the knowledge that she bonds easily with humans and every time we parted (after her school breaks), it was way easier for her than for us. It is very rewarding but it takes a toll on our hearts.

Re: I smiled because...

... I found my bike today just where I completely forgot I left it over a week ago. And it was the perfect autumn morning for a bike ride: kodacolor blue skies, sun sparking off the frost on the grass and lighting up the flame colored leaves.

Even if I did have to inch up the @*#!&^% hill, with real cyclists passing me left and right (and the occasional brisk pedestrian).

A beautiful day can trump a lot of things.

Mmmmm... beautiful!

Time to get up and go out, I think!

I smiled because... I finally made it into town, round town and back again without feeling like I'd been hit by a truck... or at least without feeling I'd been hit by a truck until I'd got home again. One has no idea how good it feels to do normal things until one has been stuck in a bedroom for nearly a month.

In which part of Ikea might a gentleman find a redhead and a brunette like those in the video? (I've already got a blonde, and apparently I'm not allowed to get another one...)

Re: I smiled because...

My daughter asked what the word wife mean and if I can be her wife. She added, if I won't, her uncles are not bad for wives, either.

Re: I smiled because...

hehe reminds me at my neighbor in Ireland.. he has two kids, a daughter and a son ,both in and around 4- 5 years old .

One afternoon they were playing out front when the girl said to her brother " listen up, we play castle know, i am the princes, you are the prince", upon her brother shouted out loud " NO! I want to be the princes ! " ..

I looked at my neighbor , and wished him good luck for the future
meanwhile his wife was laughing so hard , went back in the house to wipe her tears away

Aw, bless him, he will be a true modern man.

Now, why does this thread appear in the New Posts subforum but does not show in the main home page?

Nah ! the kid is as messed up as he could be later that evening we had one of our " drinks " with nearly everyone in the street, the kid's father jumped on the table ( locked i must say) dancing to "1999 " from Prince, shouting " look at me, i'm a metrosexual "

and while i think of that, i smiled because i remembered halloween in Blessington , we got new wheelie bins delivered that day, so neighbor and i had the brilliant idea to park the bin between our houses, put me in it with a mask and jump out evertime a kid rang the doorbel

Turned out the kid's were not that scared, the parents standing beside the bin however landed in the front lawn on more then one occasion

Those were the days..

Re: I smiled because...

... dog is back on holiday with us again and today she ran through the muddy meadows, into the fountain in town, swam to retrieve a stick from the river mouth and came home clean as a whistle, only needing towel-drying. A self-cleaning dog is convenient and smile making.
