I smiled because I'm on an unexpected road trip...

...and because my dear, normally-unflappable English husband has spent the last six hours staring around him all bug-eyed - at everything, from the NYC skyline to the size of his dinner plate.
I remember feeling that way my first time in Europe too.

That's great! Remind him that it's perfectly acceptable to ask for a doggie bag. Welcome to the Big Apple hope you both have a fantastic time.

We're in Pennsylvania now... touched down in New York but only stayed long enough to pick up a rental car. Next time maybe. Fantastic views over the George Washington Bridge though.

Dinner was in a roadside diner in New Jersey, so a doggie bag was offered without asking. I had to remind him we don't have a dog or a refrigerator and anyway breakfast will bring fresh delights. Me, I'm just enjoying the return to real ice tea and saltine crackers. Can't wait to go down and see what the continental breakfast in our motel consists of... whether it's worth eating or whether we should head down the road to Denny's.

I tell you, I have never had travel plans go so gloriously, agreeably wrong.

My 8-month-old baby just farted in his sleep. There is nothing cuter than baby farts
Puppy farts are just about right up there. But then you'd run out of the room crying and coughing.

We drove through Pennsylvania last week. Watch out for the Amish around Lancaster driving towards you on the hard shoulder of the highway in their horse-drawn buggies. Take him to Dennys, it's a cultural experience-cholesterol galore and so cheap, but I love it. Hasn't he commented on the size of Americans yet? It took my daughter a while to adapt, if she saw anyone obese gorging she would vomit.

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled today because, i confused the lady at the kiosk, by asking for a winning lottery scratch card, and to select one from the display of about 10 different types. she looked at me confused, and with a very straight face told me she didnt know , which ones were winners. I told her i knew that, and just to select a card for me, and make it a winning one!!.

Eventually she decided to pick one...

I scratched

it won :-)

her face was a picture when i went back to collect my winnings :-)
