Re: I smiled because...

I smiled because the streetlight shining through the raindrops on the window made them look like a glittering field of barley.

Re: I smiled because...

The local paper where I used to live have featured me with some friends competing in a bed race in 1975.

It is in their nostalgia section. Now I know I am getting old!

We won that year. 2.5 miles and three pub stops in 13 minutes.

Re: I smiled because...

this thread seems old yet people are still finding positive things to write about.

I am grateful for simple things that so many of us are blessed with but few take the time to think about:

not having to go hungry
having a roof over our heads
warm homes in the winter
health
family and friends
enough to live on and more
running water
electricity

and so much more

Re: I smiled because...

I realised that we're settled and I know where my home is going to be for the next year or so (god/ spirit/ flying spaghetti monster willing).
Actually, I may have been grinning like a fool as I mentally tallied up all the projects I can complete. Finally we feel a little at peace and can focus on making our home feel homey rather than like a temporary stop.

You should be spending more time unpacking and less on surveying the views then

It's true! I was actually on holiday the first week after we moved, and hardly achieved anything as the outside was so enticing!

We rose between six and seven o' clock every morning and still got hardly any unpacking done.

I mean, really: if you lived here, would you want to stay indoors unpacking boxes?

BTW - I absolutely loved your bed-racing article. It brought back happy memories of playing air-guitar on a float for Rag Week... of course in the late eighties, our clothes weren't half as cool as the stuff you chaps wore in the seventies...
