Re: I smiled because...

because we just found a new apartment! so happy after hearing horror stories about time and expense, especially after our rent is to be raised 700 chfs a month starting in august. we cashed in our karma and got lucky finding a bigger, beautiful and way less expensive apartment near the lake in a wonderful neighborhood...

That's awesome! Congrats! I don't get the rent raise when it was pretty noisy there, wasn't it. Will you miss your neighbors?

I smiled because on my regular ultrafast 6km walk, it didn't really hit me I should have my Nike's laces tied, they always fit without tying, and now I have big swollen ankles. Dooooooh! Auch.

Where are you going to be?
My apartment is on Avenue des Mousquines, with a wonderful panoramic view of the lake.
It is expensive but worth every penny. No noisy neighbours and very little traffic, There's only a bus every 30 mins. but I can walk into the centre of Lausanne in10 minutes easily.

Re: I smiled because...

it was noisy but that's one thing i liked about it less noise than nyc but not dead quiet. rent raises are pretty normal around here when changing from sublet to renter but 700 francs is crazy, just shows how many people are cramming into lausanne now at any price.

happily, now we'll be on avenue d'ouchy in a gorgeous house with stained glass windows all around us and a lovely balcony...still smiling...

Congrats, Amaraya! Some regies are just crooks... you may remember where I used to live. Well when we left they raised the rent by 500 francs... More than 30 percent!

Your new house sounds wonderful and, if I can help in any way, please send me a pm.
I'm quite good at arranging cushions!

yes the regies can be crooks! thankfully we deal with a homeowner who is an friend of a friend, or a new friend anyway . thanks for the offer for help- thats really sweet! not much to do except get some appliances together- fridge, stove, etc those were all in our old flat, but i like to find a bargain so it may be fun.

and we will surely have an ef fête there one of these days...

Re: I smiled because...

I said to my daughter- Did you see...... got married, she looked beautiful.
My daughter replied 'Yes, isn't that unbelievable, I still remember as a senior standing a few years ago here in our sitting room'. I replied " I was already married twice at her age" My daughter rolled her eyes.

A family bear hug

Orphaned bear cub in Slovenia tug of love

The family dog has been getting bear hugs
An orphaned male bear cub which has charmed Slovenia with its antics since being adopted by a family faces removal to a wildlife shelter.

Known to some just as Medo (Slovenian: Bear), and dubbed Lucky by media, it wandered into the Logar family's yard in the village of Podvrh a month ago.

Family members have bonded with the cub, which is known to hug the family dog and play on the furniture.

But officials fear the fourth-month-old cub could grow dangerous.

The family have asked for permission to build a fenced enclosure.

The cub's story has captivated sections of the press in Slovenia, a mountainous Balkan state with a brown bear population.

It is believed the cub was abandoned by its mother.

The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is one of the largest living carnivores and males grow to weigh up to 350kg (770lb).

C'mon this one isn't happy- it's sad. It makes me want to knock my head against a brick wall. And I thought my math was bad.
