Re: I smiled because...

My daughter recited Robert Frost cylcing at my side as we meandered from Bennington monument, down through the covered to bridges to a place where the Ospreys glide. She drifted away from the originals and improvised to provide a summer rendition, an ode to mark the beautiful summer day. I sensed that she was wondering if I would notice. I just smiled and said that it sounded wonderful- which it did.

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Re: I smiled because...

I am smiling because I am staying with my friend in Switzerland and yesterday she took me to Neuchatel. In spite of the showers, we had a wonderful day, wandering around the lovely medieval part, and then browsing the shops and having lunch. I normally don't get to talk in English (face to face) from week to week, so it was good to just natter for several hours!

Re: I smiled because...

I lost my ipod as I was taking pictures of my little girl while she was sitting on a merry-go-round...while she was getting off she slipped and fell off the edge bumping her head and crying. I of course dropped the ipod to tend to my little girl never to return to pick it up.

After an hour and half later I remembered that I lost it and had my husband start back tracking the steps. He walked into a local restaurant and low and behold someone had returned it to the restaurant owner for easy pick-up.

+1 to good Samaritan's in the world that still return things that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Re: I smiled because...

Sometimes it is really nice to be 'Switzerlanded' isn't it?

I smiled because I took a visitor to Morat/Murten and we managed to dodge the showers all day- and she really enjoyed herself. And a nice visit on the way back to that great garden centre in Gampelen.

Re: I smiled because...

My daughter in NZ sent me all the details about the Parent Family immigration scheme, so I know she is serious about wanting me to join them as soon as it is legally possible.

Re: I smiled because...

  • the bridies are in the oven,

  • HeinzBeenz are warming on the hob,

  • the Belhaven is in the glass,

  • a 170g bar of Toblerone just landed on my desk,

  • said Toblerone apparently cost the princely sum of £1 (1.35chf),

  • and the huge bag of Walkers Salt-n-Vinegar Extra Crispy crisps have the hopeful but ultimately futile words "Made for sharing" printed on the packet.

Re: I smiled because...

A rainbow popped out above the lake at just the right moment.

I talked to some friends who are coming to visit us for New Years about plans for a chalet and real Swiss hot chocolate.

And I learned that my recent interest in meringue has deepened into something rather more special....could it be love?

And I can see two ferry boats right now, all sparkly and gliding across the lake in front of the mountains. Crazy...
