Re: I smiled because...

I smiled today because and elderly gentleman caught me staring at his bright yellow loafers in the tram. Our eyes met and we both made the same mischievous grin . . . . I love feeling a connection to people

I smiled because:
The horse that's teaching me to ride lifted her hooves for me to clean.

Re: I smiled because...

Because I had a "let me through, I'm a linguist!" moment in the pharmacy yesterday as a nice young anglophone tried to explain to the German-speaking pharmacist that he needed some sort of medication with clearly pre-prepared German words. Seeing the relief on his face when I offered my help was lovely, I felt all useful.

Re: I smiled because...

. . . . I got challenged to a "dance off" by a co-worker.

The reasons I smiled:
1) I would dance him into the ground with my disco moves
2) Thought of last Wednesday s Talacker

I'm smiling because I'm going on vacation. Will spend some time on Cape Cod, right next to the Atlantic Ocean.

Re: I smiled because...

I'm smiling because I just read post #98.

It's nice to know that my nonsense is making other people smile!

I'm also smiling because I treated myself to a first class upgrade on the train home, because it was rush hour, and I was hot, sweaty and grumpy, and then spent the next fifteen minutes sitting in comfort, with the air conditioning working very nicely, and a nice little table for me to update my diary on.

Which was nice.

Furthermore, I'm smiling because I would appear not to be ill any more, which is very nice, and means that I'm now looking forward to my tea, which is likely to be something terribly healthy like tomato sandwiches or somesuch.

On top of that, I really enjoyed the dark cherry syrup and milk that I had as soon as I got in this evening, which was all frothy and cold, and which I drank through a straw, like a proper milkshake and everything!

And to think that only two days ago I was being a right grumpy *******, and refusing to pick up the phone or answer text messages...

Funny what a comfortable train ride, recovery from minor illness, and a glass of flavoured milk (not to mention a favourable literary review )can do for one's morale...

Re: I smiled because...

I'm smiling because I played golf with a Swiss friend of mine. We then had dinner with his family. Afterwards, I vented about the peculiarities of life here. They understood, empathized and elaborated that they also found it peculiar, and even came up with their own issues. I'm glad they confirmed that sensibility is common sense.

I'm smiling because I spent the evening singing along to Moulin Rouge with a good friend.

I did, however, refrain from dancing during the 'Like a Virgin' scene.

Much to her relief.

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled because when I went to visit my 89 year old mother-in-law, she knew who I was straight away and chatted cheerfully for an hour. I know she will, immediately afterwards, have forgotten that I went, and not everything she said made a lot of sense - the bit about the baby she is expecting confused me a little - but it sure beats trekking all the way to Basel and finding her so sleepy and confused that she doesn't even notice that I'm there.

A colleague just gave me a bottle of South African "Amarula" liqueur as a present – is this stuff any good?

It makes a great base for alcoholic milkshakes

Because I saw a beautiful field full of poppies and an unknown blue flower, creating a sort of two-tone effect. It's on the road between Ottenbach and Zwillikon, if anybody else in the area wants to have a look...

I smiled because a wind up e-mail I sent to Footy365 has finally been published!

Mikey's attempt at a wind up

I even pretended to be a Manure fan, so let's hope someone takes the bait!

Re: I smiled because...

I was out of my bike in the sunshine yesterday and stopped at look at the football tent thang at Bürkliplatz. It had bowls of fruit, fruit , beer and curry stalls, many TVs and yet they preserved a beautiful views of the lake, broken only by a statue.

What really made me smile was standing by an array of 4 subwoofers to complement the flying full range PA, the music was kicking, it was clear that the subwoofers were not even starting to shift air. Plenty of headroom there for when the party starts....
