Re: I smiled because...

We were having a walk today in some woods when on the path an elderly couple walked towards us. They were in their 80s and the gentleman was holding the ladies hand as she was quite immobile.
They walked pass us and a little while later I happened to turn around just to see him gently touch her face and kiss her..

It was such a lovely tender moment to catch - it made me feel quite emotional..

Re: I smiled because...

...I got to share a few beers to the sound of live music in a British-style pub with some friends as we watched the Zuger ice hockey team beat the New York Rangers, and then I walked home in refreshing 15 degree mountain air.

I tracked down a the son of a friend in Switzerland by an amazing coincidence. His mother died a couple of years ago and I lost contact with the family.

He is a rock musician and details of his website appeared on my Facebook page.

I hope to visit him when I am over next week
I met up with my friend when I was over in Switzerland. He is a guitar teacher and plays in various bands. I found this You Tube of him on guitar at Basel Fasnacht 2008

Re: I smiled because...

..because the snow line has come down about 150 meters while I've been sitting here looking at it.

I am home today with a bizarre stomach bug of some sort... but with a view like this it's almost (repeat almost) worth it.

Re: I smiled because...

I saw an Alpine ibex outlined against the skyline way up in the hills by the Schilt, GL, during a long hike then realized that there were twenty more just sunning their fur adjacent. Not an everyday occurrence even for this seasoned outdoor fiend.

Re: I smiled because...

Yesterday, after a nice time going up the mountain with the cable car and excellent food at the Berggasthaus Alter Säntis, we stopped in Appenzell on the way back.

Not only I loved the town - I am more of a "looking at the building and talking to the people" than "nature" kind of gal - but somehow I managed to discuss with the guy at the shop about all the different types of Appenzeller cheese in my very bad German. I ended up buying one but tasting 10 or more, as he insisted upon having me try all of them.

I was happy like a baby with a new toy, even if my German was probably horrific

For the first time since I have been married, I actually have a tan line from my wedding ring
(Due to the fact that it's the first Summer since being here that I have spent so much time outdoors.)

Re: I smiled because...

I was a roadie to one of The Sex Pistols on Friday

Glen Matlock played a special acoustic set in my brother's local pub, and he did the PA. He is normally more used to local pub bands so this was a big deal for him.

Re: I smiled because...

...two of my work colleagues and their partners invited me to attend a local festival with them today. I enjoyed the event and felt unconditionally accepted by them all. (They didn't have to do that, and their hospitality means more than they probably think.)

Also, I figured out how to work the dishwasher last night (tablets were already on hand).

Re: I smiled because...

... because today was another wonderful warm, sunny and bright day up here in the Neuchatel Jura - friends popped in un-announced and we had a great raclette outside- followed by garden raspberries and ice-cream.
And of course a local absinthe and a great bottle of Oeil de Perdrix.

... another gorgeous autumn day in the Jura, and off on a jolly with a UK friend to Evolène and perhaps Loèche-les-Bains (Leukerbad for those on the 'dark' side).
