Re: I smiled because...

I smiled because when I returned from Barcelona today, I felt for the first time since I moved here that I was home, and was comforted by the familiarity.

Being in another foreign country also taught me that my German is not as bad as I thought... I can actually understand something here.

This is not to insinuate that Barcelona is not the awesome: on the contrary. I am so unbelievably lucky to be able to just duck away for 5 days and experience such amazing things.

That ladies and gentleman is why I smile every day.

Re: I smiled because...

An inspired piece of literature. I particularly like:

"it's Mikey, not Mickey. Therefore I disregard everything you said as you cannot spell a five letter name correctly. FAIL! "

I've been watching the baby Kestrels in their nest through the live webcam at Muttenz almost continuously since Nathu posted the link:

http://www.turmfalke.ch/live_cam.htm

They are changing so quickly and almost flying now.

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled today watching my 6 year old daughter put fairy bash (some sort of made up fairy food) out for the fairies to eat. I smiled because of the absolute innocence that they have at that age. I wish I still had some of it

Re: I smiled because...

I bought a sunshade at OBI yesterday, it measure 4m by 2.5m with the 2 telescopic arms.

My neighbour bought and installed a similar one last week. It cost him about 1600chf from Migros. He proudly told me, it was on sale.

Mine cost me 199chf NEW from OBI. Yes, one hundred ninety-nine francs.

How can I NOT smile....?
It even took my mind away from the blasting I got from this forum on other threads.

Re: I smiled because...

I just had a nice dinner with my good neighbours (2 elderly people).

Yesterday I invited them. (Excuse me this has nothing to do with the burnt hedge event whatsoever)

I cooked some curry chicken, my wife cooked some chinese noodles and we had such a good dose of "family time" together.
(This is when I had my Rose and he gave me homemade grappa)

Their son with his 4-yr old daughter also came to visit the mother who had fractured her foot. My son and daughter had so much fun playing together in their garden too!

Hopefully this balances out a misguided view out here, where some individuals imagine me as being a "neighbour from hell".

I do and have successfully made friends with OTHER neighbours. And yes, this one actually lives inches away from me. They live on the other side of the SAME house.
Coincidentally, they are not local people. Don't mind me mentioning that please.

This dinner made me happy and hopeful for future interpersonal relationships.
Amen.

We started at 1830....and ended at 2200.
We cannot really speak German, and they are Italians from Italy.
However, we can communicate and we can see the "good" in our 2 families to share meals and grappa together.
Language is NOT a barrier.

That ....is enough for me to smile.
