I bought a sunshade at OBI yesterday, it measure 4m by 2.5m with the 2 telescopic arms.

My neighbour bought and installed a similar one last week. It cost him about 1600chf from Migros. He proudly told me, it was on sale.

Mine cost me 199chf NEW from OBI. Yes, one hundred ninety-nine francs.

How can I NOT smile....?
It even took my mind away from the blasting I got from this forum on other threads.
And the funny part is Obi IS Migros..!

We started at 1830....and ended at 2200.
We cannot really speak German, and they are Italians from Italy.
However, we can communicate and we can see the "good" in our 2 families to share meals and grappa together.
Language is NOT a barrier.

That ....is enough for me to smile.
Damn so you are not a vampire. You did a good job if you could not speak to each other enjoy the grappa

Re: I smiled because...

Today I smiled again, my sun shade is installed.
My friend, who is a swiss teacher, drove 1hr from his home and installed it in 90mins.
It was not easy, that I can tell you.

Now the sun is also smiling with me.

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled because of a story I was told. The first-graders of a nearby school went on a one day excursion. When they came back, one of the pupils ran to another teacher and said sadly: "My mommy didn't pack me lunch!" The teacher asked: "What have you had for Znüni?" – "Four sandwiches", he answered.

I smiled when I thought about the next thread detailing the damage that flying embers from a neighbor's grill can inflict..

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled because today the sun is again shining and the children are happy playing in the house and garden.

We will have a BBQ with another neighbour this evening. He is newest here, and I thought why not? BE THE BIGGER MAN....invite them first.

They have 4 cats, but they are very conscious about it, they built a total enclosure (they explained) so that neighbours will not be disturbed by their feline hobby.
What a considerate Deutschlander family (couple with no children).

I smile again when I think how easy people can be mistaken about people (online and in person).
Me too, me too.
Live and let live.

Nice sunday to all!

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled today becasue a few of us at work didn t have any lunch with us, so instead of going out to the store and finding our own food individually. . . . we all decided to cook together. Add a bottle of wine at 12:30 (divided amongst the 5 of us) and it made for a nice little intimate lunch time.

It is nice to work everyday with fantastic people

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled because I went to the Cambridge Rock Festival instead of the Montreux Jazz Festival as I had originally intended. Highlights were The Blockheads, John Otway, Andy Fairweather-Low, Wishbone Ash and Bad Company.

Others included tribute bands Led Zep Too and The Pure Floyd Show then Deborah Bonham, Juicy Lucy, Eddie & The Hotrods and the final night headline act, Marillion.

70 bands and 70 beers available over four days for £79.00 admission. Great value and thoroughly recommended.

Re: I smiled because...

I smiled because the elderly caretaker knocked on my door yesterday evening gesticulating wildly and explaining something in very fast Swiss German. Bless her, she knows I don't speak a word and yet she never gives up trying

I'll probably get home tonight to find the contents of my freezer in a messy puddle

Re: I smiled because...

my 7 yr old daughter said something wonderful. The discussiona rose because she noticed a woman driving a tram and asked me about it - I think she expected that only men drive trams. I told her that there was nothing stopping a woman from driving a tram, "women can do just about everything that men can". She thought about this for a moment and then said "no, that's not right, women can't go to the toilet standing up".

(A discussion concerning small brother's abilities in this area had arisen a few days previously)

Re: I smiled because...

I watched a report on youtube I think where some native south american indians were telling how they were cheated by Texaco (War Princess Condy's Company).

That alone makes it a sad thing but the funny thing came when he described what Texaco officials gave them to drill for oil.

The war chief said "Among other things they gave us candies, sugar and cheese ...but the cheese smelled weird, so we threw it into the jungle"

I smiled because I ate around 3-4 big apricots and 2-3 big apples last night. I just let off an apple/apricot flavored fart
