My daughter sent me this photo of the linen cloth she designed and helped weave during her work experienceAttachment 82434. Can mothers give full points?
I want a dress out of that!

And this, too, but I don't think it will ever get turned into a fabric design, it's supposed to go on a window pane for a little girl to see, she lives our level right across the street.

Does the little girl across the street put up pictures for yours? I see a music video here - need to think of a song.

What made me smile were my students doing really well in their oral exams. Yay. So proud of them. I need to figure out a reward.
Teachers should also get rewarded, right? We have a legally long weekend ahead (which could be expanded with the addition of one more day off work) and we are relatively close to France: take your pick.
I chose Avignon, although not very close and at a time when it is too early for the Festival, I figured we would have a really good time. So that put a big smile on my face....since yesterday already. I am probably looking a bit weird.

Re: I smiled because...

I think one's students doing well is the best reward But for something more tangible a lake/x-tra nice picnic outing is prescribed for teacher, weather is performing

My greatest reward from my first teaching post (post BA) was running into someone who had been in yr 9, introducing himself to me (when I was working on PhD at age 29) as a graduate student in same field. I was SO knowing I hadn't put him off the subject in the 3yrs I was his teacher.

Yeah, the girls stick pictures in windows for eachother. Though I would prefer the little neighbor to make her own art instead of the Hannah Montana that is currently there, but thankgod it is not Mily Cirhus or whatever her name is. Adults and their grown up tastes , I don't really care, the girls are cute.

GM - I totally think teachers need rewards, but eventhough it is not really done here, we do not have the Teacher Appreciation Day like it is in the US (I am jealous of my US teacher friends, I at least want apples and all), I do get the huge feeling of gratification when I see a student after they leave and when they run to me, which happens all the time, and brag about their achievements, getting to a good school, getting a good job, etc. That's a good spirit. I am a bit tired of the over the top timidity here, and the lack of healthy esteem in terms of skills, etc. A healthy medium between waiting for one's chances quietly vs the entitlement and ott ego, would be perfect. It is rare.

I smiled today because I am working in a uni lib today, and it is slowly filling up with cramming souls, the park around is wodenrful and the windows let in really nice summery fresh breeze and the right amount of sunshine to have our heads produce some marvels, hahahah.

And because I managed to scout out a beautiful reprint of my grandad's Bach, the old one was printed in 1902 and I couldn't play it anymore without breaking the pages. 18fr of joy.

Re: I smiled because...

Neighbour knocks at the door- the BBQ is on- come when you are ready.
Same with other neighbours- before anyone has had time to think about it- one has got roast tatties on, the other makes a couple of salads- knibbles are on the table, beer and prosecco- meats come from all sides- kids are laughing and here we go. Made a pud in a jiffy and the icre-cream is ready- and 1 hour ago nothing was planned. If that does not happen where you are- you defo live in the wrong part of Switzerland - scorchio up here in the mountains with just enough breeze. Hurrah

Just came in to get the roast potatoes which were not quite ready- and the second bottle of prosecco that was chilling a lovely meal and afternoon- just got back to see the end of the Nadal/Jokovitch match.

Re: I smiled because...

Today, i saw a cat on a window sill across the street.

And at the moment there is a person playing the saxaphone (very well) just up the street.

I love it when all the windows are open and people are smiling in the street.
