Re: I smiled because...

I smiled just now stumbling across this positive thread. There IS a lot of negativity here, even when its necessary to let out ones frustrations. Uprooting ones self and moving to a new country is a courageous step and not for sissies. So many issues come up which need to be settled, shit happens as we say, situations arise that we just never anticipated. So its important to find solutions. But, all said and done, the reason I came to CH was reminded to me on New Years Day....

I decided to move to Switzerland after my divorce and being a nurse I knew I could get a job with better pay here. (I worked the last 24 years as an American working in Germany, a looooong story worthy of its own thread).
In any case, my first three months here were hell. I was shell shocked for varying reasons (another possible thread), and have finally come down to earth with both feet on the ground the last two months really. The town where I live is the right one, my first job was a nightmare and I received confirmation of a second new job two days before Christmas, so things are looking up.

New Years Day I walked up the mountain near my town. It was a thousand meter hike in fluffly snow, blue skies mixed with fog, quiet and stillness.
I was alone. I am pretty much alone here...no family, no pets...just me myself and I. I am not unhappy, this has all been my choice. In any case, I reached a point about 800 meters up and stopped and listened. The quiet blew me away. It all came back to me, the whys of leaving my old life and the reasons for coming to this part of the world. It all came full circle and I smiled with this innate "knowing" that my hard and unique decision to uproot myself was well worth it.
I smiled in knowing I never gave up, even though I had many moments when I wanted to.
I smiled in knowing that I am not alone, there are so many of us gypsie souls wanting to explore and experience the world, its just so vast, beautiful and endless.
I smiled in remembering to live for the moment and to let all those negative frustratons that accompany all of us here, well, to just let them come and go. There is nothing we can do about them but deal with them one after the other. You don't get something for nothing afterall.
Just never give up, it IS worth it. My move has been worth it.

I know this turned into a self rambling piece but hey it just flowed and I will subit it and hope it left someone with a smile of self recognition this day.

Gruss

Re: I smiled because...

Well I just found this thread but something came to my mind.
That right before Christmas I smiled because the 7 yrs old boy I babysat for a week because his mother was away, gave me a sticker note, in an envelope that he made, and wrote ''I love you'' , together with 3 hearts!! This was after a week that I took care of him every day and we did Origami and Christmas Cards for his parents and friends. And I told him that I hope we will see each other again and he hugged me! Then he told his father he wants to see me again because I teach him nice things .

Re: I smiled because...

I have the nicest neighbors anyone could ask for. This morning our clothes dryer went out with a bang (and some smoke and drama and awful burning smells). I had to re-wash the clothes that were in the dryer so they didn't smell like they'd been in the garden smoker for a week.

The neighbor gave me her spare key and told me to use her dryer until ours is fixed!

Re: I smiled because...

I was just able to purchase a single seat, at a decent price, to Tristan and Isolde, on 1st Feb from helpful salesperson at Zürich Opera. Can't wait to see Nina Stemme in action!

....am I the only one smiling (last post also mine from a while back...)

The sounds coming from the next room were my daughter, SINGING in her sleep. I know she talks sometimes but now she added a melody

Britain's got talent surely? Anyone can sing ( some better than others admittedly) but singing in your sleep now that's real talent.

Re: I smiled because...

Better sit down - don't hover

I smiled because after all the snow and strong winds- the sun came out today, wind dropped- and it was just so beautiful out there. Our garden looks like the dunes of the desert of Namibia- but all in white and glistening our garden fence is there... somewhere under the tree
