Re: I smiled because...

The birds up here at just amazing- and as I feed them throughout winter, I get 100s on the patio.

But today, for the first time ever here ... a robin

I had several in our UK garden, and they followed me everywhere when I was gardening, knowing I'd throw them a worm or 2, or would turn over soil where there would be worms.

We had a robin as a frequent visitor until one of the neighbour's cats ate him.

We have a robin ( or two?) who come every day here. One of them comes right up to the patio window and looks in every morning.

Re: I smiled because...

What altitude are you BM- we are at 950 here to quite significantly higher.

We have lots of bramblngs, chaffinches, nuthatches, all sorts of tits... and both kind of sparrows, and so many more- but very few robins- as 1 in 6 years!

We 're at 469m so much lower and have loads of different birds here.

I think the robin comes to the window deliberately to torment the cat. ( who is inside)

The neighbours' cat (who is NOT kept inside, unfortunately) thought the special food balls I had put for the birds were his own personal supermarket the birds are now scared of coming because of him

My son did a week's work experience last week and one of the dishes he devised and cooked for the head chef is on the menu this week. Well chuffed.

That's fantastic! Well done, T!

My smile for the day: My new nephew was born over the weekend and both mom and baby are doing well. I now have two nieces and two nephews. Full and happy heart.

I smile almost daily at the thought that I live in such a (relatively) safe place, free from war, and with plenty of food, etc.

I smiled last Monday- when I realised that my knees are much better at skiing than walking - so I could spend the week skiing with my grand-children (after worrying for months that I might not be able to ski this year- fab conditions in Adelboden- perfect weather and perfect snow)

I've been listening to 1xtra while making lunch, and they seemed to be playing all the circa 2000 garage music that I used to love, this one in particular http://youtu.be/FqqEJgrhEX4 takes me back to sixth form, a holiday with my sister, and when my husband and I had just started dating(!!!!) and other fuzzy nostalgia from the old days

Re: I smiled because...

Smiled because in the snow storm yesterday- I caught a glimpse of very bright red on the tree outside my window- a bullfinch! Perhaps the most beautifully coloured bird here, the darkest of black heads contrasting with the very bright red of the chest. Got up and went to the kitchen door, and there was another one on the bird feeder, so so close. And later lots more- they must have been so hungry, such a rare sight. I've only seen them here in the late autumn, feeding on the last raspberries.

Went for a walk in the snow yesterday, carrying the little one in my ergo baby.

His eyes widely opened and his bright 'oh!' Of surprise and pleasure at seeing snow falling for the first time made me smile for the entire walk!

Re: I smiled because...

I smile to think of how much my life has changed for the better. I look at my girls and they don't even realize it. But I just look at them and thank god that I have them. It's not always a party with them, but at the end of the day they are my life, my blessing.

Re: I smiled because...

I love your thread.
All the time, I try to be happy, even if a situation is no so good to me. So, I try to think in funny situations or a movie, I don´t know.

One day, I watched a movie named UP! and the moment the little boy switch the bottons on the dogs laces, these dogs changes the langage. . For me it´s soooo fffunnnyyy. I study Linguistics, you know!
