Re: watch repair and despair in Geneva!

Just thought, there's a watchmaker in Carouge that might be able to help. Can't remember the exact address but his atelier is on the ground floor of a building on the right as the tram turns into the village. Next door along from the large clothes shop on the corner of Place 'd'Armes.
Possibly 2 or 4 Rue Saint Victor?

Precisely
My Casio appreciated in price. Can you say the same about your Glashütte on which you spent your bonus on?
I dont buy watches as investment, but funny enough: THe Glashütte I bought ten years ago is more worth today than what I spent on it.

This time I went for a Swiss brand, but I did not plan to derail the thread into another "are luxury watches worth it" discussion. They are worth it for me as I really enjoy wearing them every day.

Re: watch repair and despair in Geneva!

If you can make a trip to Lausanne you could try these guys on Grand Pont...
http://watch-house.ch/

They adjusted the timing of my automatic Seiko and replaced two batteries in two other watches for a reasonable price. They list a crown stem replacement from 35chf. If the mechanism no longer works though, this may be outside what they can do..

If you're in Lausanne, you could also try this shop:
https://www.timeworld.ch/

They specialise in buying/selling prestige watches but they do offer a repair service. They're open by appointment only though...

Re: watch repair and despair in Geneva!

I have a friend who knows a man in the Plainpalais area. I'm going to give a couple of watches to him to clean etc. for me.

The next time I see my friend, probably tomorrow or Saturday. I'll ask him.

Re: watch repair and despair in Geneva!

The watch is Lorus V501-X246. It runs on batteries, so I guess it is Quartz. I think the dials are OK, but the screen is cracked (see photos). Any hope for it?

Not worth it unless it has some sentimental value. Spare parts are available, including crystals by the look of it, but if moisture or dirt has got in then it may need a new movement.

Here's a rough price guide:

http://time-repairs.net/watchrepair/w4-4.htm

Any place that does Seiko should be able to handle it but to do it properly the costs will exceed the value.
