Migros and Coop are cheating me again!

Hi guys, just wanted to share a situation with you. Yesterday in Migros on Limmatplatz buying groceries. Payed, came home checked the bill and AGAIN seller charged me 2 X Kinder Bueno 10 Packs even I bought just one package.
Same situation happened to me few days ago when I bought fresh salmon in Coop which was 50 % off and she charged me full price. I bought 2 Pieces and on one she put the reduced price and on the second one she did not.
I wanted to leave it after first situation but now I am really pissed off. There was really not so many people, she could have done her job easy and correctly.
For the salmon I have proof but of course for 2 payed packages instead one what should I do?
Should I every time stand there after buying groceries and checking if she did her job well.
Of course this situations happened couple of times but I was never reacting because it was small amount and many time of course I was not even checking the receipt.

A friend of mine shared with me that he had same problem couple of times. You maybe as well?
Should I contact their Kundendienst?

Yes you should contact Kundendienst, or go back to the shop and speak to the people involved. Don't take it personally though, your just an other customer.

I know but when it happens so often it just makes me angry. I even understand when it is crowded and they want to do their job quick as possible, mistake can happen... those two situations were not one of those. Almost empty shop:msnshock::msncrazy:

I think you should check your receipt before leaving the shop.

It happened 2 times for Christ's sake, as per your story. Did you think for a second that maybe it was something wrong with the bar code scanner?
Just go to the customer service and stop being such a baby...
Gee...:msnsick:

it was closing time, 15 other things on the bill, did a quick check but not a detailed one. Should I be doing the same when I buy 100 items? :msnshock:

Also consider using self-checkout.

This way, there will be no cashier to make a mistake.

The title is at best misleading, it suggest some deliberate attempt by the supermarket chains to defraud customers. What's more likely is the cashier didn't hear the beep and simply rescanned the item, it's a pretty banal repetitive job so you can hardly blame the occasional operator error. I'm sure it also happens the other way (i.e in the customer's favour) so it all evens out.

Yes, you should. People can make mistakes for crying out loud, and instead of whining about it, you could've checked the receipt right after receiving it and complained on the spot if need be. Adding up prices during shopping makes this easier - I've done it forever.

Using self-checkout (Subito or Passabene) is an option, but there you have to be very careful to enter every single item you bought, because they do checks sometimes and if you're caught having not scanned an item and leaving the shop, they might not take it lightly depending on how expensive the item or how good your explanation for forgetting to scan is. But if there are 25/50% reduction stickers (the orange ones) on items, I'm not even sure one can use self-checkout. Anyone done so yet?

"A couple" = "two", not more. HTH

Anyway, would you like me to change your thread title to avoid being sued for libel? Accidental overcharging at worst, certainly not cheating you of anything.

I'm sure it happens to us all from time to time, but then I've also been aware of accidents in my favour, which I don't generally make a point of reporting (can you imagine the customer service desk staff scratching their heads with me standing there saying "Please, take this money for the loaf of bread you didn't charge me for last week"?) :msncrazy:

I suspect that in the long term one is much more likely to be undercharged than over, as it's much easier to miss an item on the scanner than it is to scan it twice.

Oh, and 50% off or similar stickers are very easy to miss, so knowing that, I always make a point of checking them at the time. Failure to correctly apply a discount doesn't amount to cheating yuo either.

So why should you take it lightly if they don't?

As you wrote, "People can make mistakes for crying out loud".

Please make your mind up as you're sending mixed messages.

I've used them, and it works. Sometimes it's confusing tho as some offers don't appear till the thing is scanned and totaled. We bought light bulbs in coop yesterday - all at 50% off, but they scanned at full price. The reduction didn't appear until it was all added up at the self scan terminal.

In fact they don't even ask. They simply tell you what you'd missed and ensure the full amount is paid. They have logic algorithms in place to determine whether to rescan on any given occasion, and clearly a history of failure makes it more likely next time.

Depends if they have a new bar code on the sticker (in which case yes, I've done so lots) or if it just has a 50% of sticker on it, in which case there's no way to mark it.

Just because I say people can make mistakes and because I forgive the cashier for not scanning a 50% sticker, it doesn't mean that the person checking people who are using self-checkout will

I cannot make up the mind of said Coop/Migros shop assistant (who is standing at the self-checkout randomly checking people's shopping for non-scanned items), only my own (when using the regular tills with reduced items).

Nothing mixed about my message.

I over years often purchased for a colleague and later realized that something had gone wrong. I then went to Kundendienst and explained. I generally got what I needed

It's not only prices you need to check at the sloppy Swiss retailers. Prices are often not shown, or are different at the checkout and offers totally missed.

Any store that can show their tangerines are from Iceland, as our local Coop did, needs watching carefully...

I always make a point of putting all the reduced stuff and things with stickers on together on the belt and with the stickers clearly visible to the cashier. I always check the receipt before leaving the store so that any mistakes can be easily rectified.

The OP may have had a legitimate gripe if she was systematically being overcharged at the same store on a regular basis. At the moment she's just been a bit unlucky to have had a couple if cashiers who've made mistakes. It's easily done and easily rectified too.
