Looking for our stolen bakfiets/cargo bike

Someone stole our beloved bakfiets from our home in Winterthur last night . It's a WorkCycles model. Looks a lot like a bakfiets.nl.

If you happen to see it being sold online, I'd really appreciate it if you sent me a link. Or if you see it at a bike market somewhere.... Or if you happen to see it out about, please let me know where you spotted it. A photo would be great.

Unfortunately, we do not expect this to be covered by our insurance, so I'm extra eager to do what I can to track it down.

(PSA: if you have an electric bike, make sure that your insurance reflects this. Not just a "bike" for their purposes.)

Thanks!

If you are on FB, post this as well in the group Nederlanders in Zwitserland. Might help.

Re: Looking for our stolen bakfiets/cargo bike

Does it have any tagged information where I could identify it as your's? I can't say I have ever seen one of those before, but if I do, how do I know it's yours and nor someone else's?

In case they try to move it to the Swiss French area, you should also be checking on http://www.anibis.ch

Search under: vélo cargo

Good luck.

This is the bike number: 140926
After hauling adult sized bikes around in it a couple times, the edges on the cargo box are a little scratched up. Particularly on the driver's side left. On the frame supporting behind the box, the paint is also a tad chipped in some spots from taking a tumble once. There was a grey Timbuk2 bike bag attached to it, but I guess they might take that off of it.

Re: Looking for our stolen bakfiets/cargo bike

Hello Jetset,

Sorry to bring this thread up and its bad memories. Hope you found your bike since.

As an owner of a special bike too, i'm always scared to leave it on the streets. I wanted to ask you the following:

1. What kind of lock did you use and how was it secured (against a lamp post ...) ?
2. What do you mean by insurance won't cover because it's an e-bike. Did you have it covered under your home insurance or was it a dedicated bike insurance ?

Thanks for your reply

Re: Looking for our stolen bakfiets/cargo bike

unfortunately, we never got it back

the bike was in front of our house and behind our fence. there is no lamp post on our terrace to secure it to. we used the bike lock that's installed with the bike. i'm not sure, but i think it's called something like a ring lock. turn the key and a bar slides through the tires...

if you have an electric bike, you should make sure that your insurance covers it. not all insurance carriers do unless you explicitly have it written in that it's electric. i can't find the original k-tipp article i read about this, but this goes in that direction.

https://www.ktipp.ch/artikel/d/aufge...elo-diebstahl/

hope that helps somewhat!
