Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

Hi all,

Could someone more experienced than me of swiss life shed a bit of light on the last electricity bill we received from ewz?

It says Akontorechnung, without any rechnungsperiode. The last bill was clear about what period we were asked to pay for and how much electricity we consumed in that period, but this bill does not show anything like that.

We have the Tarif called naturpower.

Thanks and cheers,
G

Re: Akontorechnung?

For us , they usually give a preliminary bill , which is a best guess of the bill to come .... Once the final bill is calculated , and if you have paid the earlier bill , they will reflect this in the bill and credit you with what you have paid extra ( or ask you to pay any additional amount ) .... Not sure why they do this but it seems to be quite common , since we have been receiving this for years now .

Thanks for your answer. I still don't get it though, I'll write to ewz and ask them for clarification.

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

It is exactly what Marcaschvin said - a preliminary bill for your utilities used. Periodically they do a clearing and check your actual consumption and credit or debit you depending on your balance.

I think this is actually common practice in most European countries for this type of services (gas, water, electricity) and makes perfect sense from the utility companies point of view. Reading the meters is normally not something that can be done every month and thus, they do this not to risk to much losses. Go figure that a lot of people would default on their payments if they were charged a huge bill only each year for something they had already consumed.

Well, so far I always saw companies sending an "estimation" of your current cumsumption based on the last year's real use of the service, then, after they come and read the numbers, you get a special bill where the difference between what you have paid and what you should have paid is debited/credited.

Now, in such a bill, I would expect to find numbers telling what I have used and what I paid etc... there is nothing of this sort in this one... just an amount of francs to be paid

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

I also got one of these today. But my question is this: should I actually pay this or should the landlord? I mean, there are these nebenkosten which supposedly cover everything. And even if they don't, if I pay this "deposit" now and then it's too much, I guess the landlord will be credited, not myself?...

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

There is a separate meter for 'allegminde usage' that will come as a definite bill to your landlord, which s/he will break it down to the apartments in the nebenkosten bill. What you recieved today is for your usage only. If ZH does reads like ZG, your next bill will be from read meters, not estimates.

/meter reads for a living

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

fellas, it goes like this: you get a bill every third month for a fourth of the electricity you consumed the previous year. once 12 month are over, you get the final bill, stating what you consumed over the last 12 month and what you payed already. you then either get credited or billed the difference. ewz actually only checks once a year the meter, that's why.

the energy you actually consume in your flat does not have anything to do with your landlord or with the nebenkosten. it has to be paid by you and will be credited back to you. the electricity included in your nebenkosten is lights in the staircaise etc. that can not be charged to a flat = common use.

Look at your lease. Is electricity included in the Nebenkosten? Sometimes it is.

If I understand right (not sure) is included but stimate. 30th September is the real one...is that normal?
When they read the consumption is only electricity or heating as well? Will they give me money back? How I know they are not lying to me?

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

We moved into our apartment in June and have been receiving "Akontorechnung" quarterly for 50chf.... I thought it was to good to be true, today we received the "Stromabrechnung" for the last 6 months

Can someone help me understand it please? The bill is split into;

Total Netznutzung
Total Energie
Total Abgaben & übrige Kosten

These 3 minus the previously paid Akonto give us the final bill. But what is the difference between Netznutzung & Energie?

Thanks

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

Oh dear me... the Netznutzung or distribution cost is paid to the company that own the pylons and street cables. The energy cost is paid to the company with the power station that produces energy. Abgaben and Übrigekosten are sometimes small amounts that are paid to your Gemeinde - Commune, a sort of local tax.

If you are not receiving electrical bills, call the company! Your landlord normally informs them you are moving into the apartment, maybe someone forgot!

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

Ok, thanks. I just didn't understand the breakdown. In the UK I'm sure you are just charged for your usage in total, they do not separate it into production and delivery costs.

Re: Akontorechnung? (EWZ Zurich electricity bill)

I just did it online on the EWZ website

https://mein.ewz.ch/irj/portal/anony...37d25644cb958d

You can do everything online and no need to send the deregistration document. I have also called them on the phone and they told me that there is nothing left for me to do, and they will sent me the final bill via email.
