Compliments are the best opener bar none.

If the ring itself isn't worth complimenting on you could always make something up. Literally anything will do, even a lie - the stone color matches her eyes, her hair, it complements her slender hand, etc. If she wants to tell the story attached to it you don't even need to ask, otherwise that option is still open. Or you could tell your own story of a similar ring as usually people feel compelled to reciprocate - your sister's (if you have one) engagement ring you helped her pick looked similar, etc.

Slender hands? what? That's a bit...serial killer-ish. Like he wants to wear the skin from her hand as a glove. For gods sake, don't mention her slender hands.

I'd suggest you not play games about the ring (since they will likely be completely transparent) and just ask her. Something along the lines, 'IS there a story behind that ring?'.

Can't you just Facebook stalk her like everyone else does?

Amen brother.

Still, you tried.

LOL. Reminds me of a comment my wife once made:

"We [all wimin'] always know straight away if we were going to let you [all men] pull us* or not... we just like to prolong the process to see how keen you are."

Prior to that, I dropped couple of hints that Im going to approach someone I like and she was all encouraging (that was over texts), 2 days later we met and I saw that ring for first time! (been meeting the lady for over a month and never seen here wearing a ring, hence I thought she wanted to hint to me that shes attached or so, thus save myself the embarrassment).
"Hey, remember I told you about that lady I like? Well I finally managed to work up the courage to ask her out on a date, but then I noticed she was wearing something that looked like a wedding ring!!! Luckily, I recently found out it's not a wedding ring at all, it is just a beautiful ring but without any special meaning. So... How about that date?"

Good luck!

My bestest friend is a man.

He recently moved house and showed me my bedroom in his flat, all ensuite. an online tour.

And the pizza place is about 20 metres away!!!

I found it quite nice that he showed me my room. Maybe get one of those kiddie signs - Patsy's room ceramic dooda things stuck on the door.

Snapster,

I think you might be overreacting. That Patsy shot you down on the pizza is in no way whatsoever a valid justification to emigrate to Hirosihma. Don't get me wrong, Hiroshima is a wonderful place (at least it was 35 years ago), but still...

At least with food, sometimes when a woman says "no" she doesn't really mean "no". Sometimes she means "Ask me again so I can give in gracefully", sometimes she means "Is that the besst you can do?"

Try the following escalation:

1) Fancy a Pizza?
2) Fancy a Home made Pizza?
3) Baked in a proper wood fired Oven?
4) Which I made myself?
5) Would you like Truffles on it?
6) I collected them myself?
7) With my Beagle, Snoopy? (I know, traditionally pigs are used, but pet pigs are a hard sell. Beagles, OTOH...)
8) On the grounds of my Chateau, in the south of France?

Similar to loosening a rusted bolt... the trick is to use a larger and larger hammer, ultimately heat.

Thanks for the tips. EasyJet doesn`t fly to Japan and I have already seen the film "Hiroshima Mon Amour". On top of that I don`t know if I would still get my invalidity pension in Japan so back to square one. I`ll have a sausage and bacon bap for breakfast. That should strengthen my resolve.

Man, EF got fun.

Anyways, OP - good luck. I have no idea where you grew up, what makes you so ultimately careful, uber planning and strategic, but as a chick I gotta say it's all a bit over the top, it all sounds stiff and calculative, far from any spontaneous charm..

If you have seen her 20 times in casual setting, and wish for more, why hint and spin some weird stories about your "imaginary friend" to her, just tell her you like spending time with her and see what she replies. One can be genuine, direct and still respectful.

By the way, we know about her Japanese - how is her English? Would she amuse herself with this saga here?

("Journal of Hiroshima" is probably the most accurate narrative, I just wish I wasn't 10 when I read it. While we are at it, the Manzanar camp looked pretty...strange a few weeks ago, didn't know what to think of it).

Snapsterone: Up the ante: Gazpacho, Vitello Tonnato, Borscht. Hard to get the balance though, if you end up bidding Chateaubriand, and she accepts, then that will be the _base_ level she expects you to cook at, every meal. Forget farting in bed too.

On second thought, stick with pizza and select a new target.
Is there a problem with farting in bed? I personally think that this is a racist comment.

With baited breath and fingers poised over my keyboard I await a happy beginning.

Failing that, I have some cookies in the cupboard. If it is really bad I shall have to make Scones. Scones fresh from the oven won't cure a broken heart, but they do round the sharp edges off a bit.

Well if you're as slow as the the OP in his romancing, it may be in about two years!! And i wear a ring, on my right hand...!!

This thread is great, what a laugh.

No disrespect to the OP, but really - ask her out. See how easily it can happen?!!

And please let us know if it happened. I love a nice happy ending to a romance thread. (not to be taken rudely)
